Molly Huddle's run was better than anyone else's in the great US of A so hats off to her.
She has an American record and that is incredible.
Having said that, she finished 10th in the race.
For the stat geeks, I wonder if that is the lowest anyone has finished in a race and set an American record.
Do people keep track of such things? Distance races only.

I said the record is impressive. I'm just curious. The people need to set the bar higher. On the men's side some Brit ran 13:00 30 years ago. We should be running 12:45.

Dude, really? What place did Lagat finish to set the 5k AR this year? What place did Solinsky finish with the 10k AR?

It probably is the lowest yeah. Then again the 5k NR does seem relatively weak compared to the 10k. On the other hand 14:10 and 29:30 re pretty much par with each other so maybe I'm being slightly harsh.
The standard is ridiculously high, and with 10k only being run a Olympic, World, Continental and National level nowadays all the talents are plyiong themsleves in the 5k to devastating effect. the 10k all-time list looks pretty dam poor in comparison.

The lowest place someone set an AR? New Orleans, 1992 Olympic Trials, New Orleans is 5 feet below sea-level.
Has to be a women's marathon record (it was a mixed gender race before the elite women started separately, one could include other road races but I think technically those are all World Bests).
In all seriousness though, this shouldn't be too hard to look up if somebody had American Record Progressions in each of the distance events.
