Anyone who watched the race can tell she wasn't trying. In the last 20m she moved past 3 runners with very little effort.
Prediction: She doesn't win another major competition until the World Championships. And when she does it will be running away.

I have and will defend the gender issue until something more conclusive than a douchebag Letsrun opinion comes to light, but I agree 100% with this post. She looked effortless.
Regardless of whether she is or isn't part male, this race is smart. It doesn't prove anything other than she is better than she performed and is probably trying to avoid some of the shitstorm of when she dominates.
Would you prefer accidentally tripping over people like Rupp. Of course you could claim he fell accidentally about 4k into a 5k a few weeks ago. How do you know for sure what really happened?
Why are interested in seeing penises? Are you looking for pics to add to a penis pic collection you are amassing?
She looked pretty easy to me too, but then, she looked the same running 1:55.4 last year in Berlin. She may just be that kind of runner - Komen looked comfortable in the 7:20, there wasn't much room to improve there. She didn't run negative splits today either - I got her first lap at 58 seconds, then a 30 second 200m and 31s, so that's not someone who is holding back for the last 150m.
I think one must be careful to say that she is deliberately tanking. Of course, this is possible, and given what I've seen in SA of how she's now being managed, it would not surprise me, because a host of PR guys and clever managers have jumped all over this "goldmine".
But, I have to also believe that having sat out for so long, and missed earning potential, she's out there to make money - this may sound crass, but given her background, the financial benefits of doing well (and the penalties of throwing it) are pretty substantial (The money has come up a lot in interviews with her in SA).
I'm still not convinced that some medical treatment has not gone on and that she'll get one second slower per year from now on. Remember, you can have sex-reassignment surgery (male to female) and compete, but only TWO years later with hormone treatment. So let's say they "rushed" this through, and allowed her to compete 6 months in - it's too early to know.
Just to add, here in the media, until about June, her coach was in all the papers saying how well she was training, that she was "ready" for Europe. Then it was only in June that the tune changed. So this idea that she's completely untrained - don't buy it.
So wait and see, and by WC 2011 there'll be a better idea.

Her every move this season has been carefully orcastrated.
*orchestrated....lol
Remember, she's only trained for a few weeks. It probably takes at least 5 weeks of training for world record form.Sarcasm intended. This is the main reason I do not accept her on face value. No athlete should be approaching a legitimate WR on only one season's work, yet that is what she did last year.
Ross,
Thanks for your outstanding coverage of the issues and complexities on the Semenya case on your blog.
What do you think of the IAAF putting together a working group to come up w/ a standard for sex determination? They voted to do so at the last Exec. committee meeting.
Anyone else think she looks more feminine now? I don't know what it is- she looks to have a higher bodyfat % than before, which would back up the idea that she's taking estrogen now, but it could just be a conscious effort to appear feminine.
I thought she might look better in a Freudian slip

Thought the same thing when watching the race. Would make sense to not win otherwise more questions would be raised from the other athletes, etc.
She can't win for losing.
When she wins there's doubt.
When she takes third, there's doubt.
Any suggestion of tanking is redickless..
she tanked. no doubt. looked mad about doing it too like she was told to.

Brilliant!!! LOL
Semenya to Rupp? That's a non sequitur. Why do you care what really happened?
can some post the race of Semenya?
She looked at the others with 50 meters to go and said "I'll be seman'ya!"
Or maybe she just had an off day....
