I have experienced some slight lateral knee pain throughout this summer, and after an 11 miler 4 days ago it became excruciating. I could barely even walk for the first 24 hours after it. Now, walking feels fine maybe 75% of the time (stairs hurt especially), but I have not ran or done any type of training since this 11 miler because bending my knee at all hurts a lot. Running would intolerably painful. I saw a ART practicing chiropractor today who confirmed that he believes it is ITBS/possible strain of the lateral collateral ligament.
I went to a running store the other day and tried the Pro-Tech IT Band Compression Wrap but it provided absolutely no relief whatsoever. I have read miracle stories about the Pattstrap so I'm tempted to order one, but I'm not sure if it is even different from the Pro-Tech strap. Has anyone tried both? Is it worth it to order a Pattstrap if the Pro-Tech strap didn't help at all? Did anyone else have ITBS that wasn't cured by a strap - and is there an explanation why the strap didn't work?
Also, has anyone with ITBS had similarly severe symptoms? Does anyone think this could be something else? (Ligament tear?) On old threads, a lot of people seemed to be able to run at least a few miles while healing from ITBS. However, my pain is so severe that this is far from an option for me, and I feel like my outlook for this XC season is looking grim because I can't imagine something this severe healing quickly.
There are a lot of helpful ITBS threads but none addressed Pattstrap vs. other straps. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks!
