You can't have a State "Baptist" university.
sad news, either way.
6 dead. 5 from the SUV that hit the CBU van head-on. The driver of the CBU van (cheerleading coach who was a driver for the cross-country team) died. 12 students in that van injured, 2 in critical condition. The other 2 CBU vans managed to avoid the wreck.
Further update: The toll has been changed to 3 dead, 12 injured. Two dead from the SUV, and the Cal Baptist Cheer coach who was driving one of the vans.
They found running gear in the SUV, leading authorities to believe that the SUV also contained a San Diego area XC team....
there were possibly cathedral city high school athletes in the suv that crashed returning from an altitude camp.
Yes, the death toll is at 3. Initial reports stated 6, all 5 in the SUV. Now reports are saying only 2 in the SUV died and the CBU cheerleading coach was driving the CBU van.

This article says that the occupants of the SUV also may have been runners going home from training in the mountains.
Both vehicles involved college runners.
The SUV going southbound carried recent graduates from Cathedral Catholic HS in San Diego. The two that died in the SUV were going to run track and XC at Cal Poly and Loyola Maramount. The three that survived have severe burns.

The CBU van was carrying XC team members going northbound to train at Mammoth. The driver who died was the CBU cheerleading coach who was driving the team up there. There are six CBU runners still in hospitals at this moment.
My prayers will go out for the team, there families, and CBU. God has His plans.
