This could get very drawn out. I hope he gets pinched or finally admits that he cheated.
Nail him ! But what will he get even if they indict him ? He's white and he'll be slapped on the wrist. Look at light skinned A-Rod. He hits 600 doped HRs and the fans cheered for A-Rod. MLB, Cycling, NBC/CBS/ESPN/FOX/ABC, MMA, UFC, NHL, NFL loves doping and the records dopers set.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not the most informed person on this subject but it seems like there is very little chance for LA to be prosecuted for anything.
Does anyone believe this investigation will uncover any new evidence of doping? Physical evidence or testimony from a significant number of credible witnesses that can effectively counter LA's denials? Don't see even federal investigators with their authority coming up with evidence that is any different than what has been floating around cycling for the last ten years.
Those with any kind of credibility, in a position to know of LA's doping or encouragement to dope (Brunyeel, Ferrari, Hincapie, etc.) are unlikely to rat him out absent any real evidence/paper trail. The spectre of getting caught in a lie to federal agents really means nothing if you are confident there is nothing else to back up the allegations.
He's either clean, or too smart to have left any kind of evidence lying around. So essentially, in terms of witness testimony, it's at best a draw...? Can't see any prosecution going forward on that kind of evidence or lack thereof.
I see perjury as the only possible charge. That is assuming the subpoena him and he lies during the testimony (presumably they would give him immunity so he cannot just plead the 5th).
Perjury is a hard charge to prove.
Obstruction of Justice, Lying under Oath, etc. are Federal Crimes they can nail him for. I doubt if they can get him for doping since the dope testers work with UCI to evade positives. The only sport I know of that where the federation actually wants to catch EPO and known steroids and does so is Horse Racing.
Lance is, and has always been, clean and innocent of all accusations. I know all you anti-Armstrong freaks are simply suffering from jealousy and/or massive inferiority complexes, but get off the guy's back already.
If you all are so sure LR is a drug cheat, then put your money where your mouth is and FRIGGING PROVE IT. Otherwise, STFU.
Who said LR used drugs? LOL!
Lance Armstrong, however, did/does use drugs.
Fair enough. Lance has never failed a drug test (nor did Marion). However, to me, if it looks like an addict and smells like an addict.... In MY opinion, it's crazy not to be skeptical. I firmly believe he cheated (as do many others). We obviously disagree, but that's cool.
i still am constantly shocked at people who deny that LA was a drug user. so you're telling me that he crushed the world's best for 7 years and had multiple teammates convicted of drug use, but he was as clean as a whistle? dude, get over it. he used. whatever. the upper echelon of cycling is a filthy sport. it's part of it. the old adage of "he has never tested positive" should evaporate...marion jones never tested positive either. just don't make yourself look like a silly and naive fanboy by blindly failing to face what should be blatant. drugs or not, asshole or not (ask most people in austin that have had to deal with the fool), hats off to some inspiring cycling done by LA along the way.
You must be a doper too just like Lance Armstrong !

Oh yeah! I'm a 200-pound 60-minute 10K guy. I have doping written all over my resume!
Novitzky, the lead investigator in the Bay Area Laboratory Co-operative steroids case, is trying to determine if Armstrong, his teammates, the owners or managers of his former team conspired to defraud their sponsors by doping to improve their performance and win more money and prizes.
Fine use of tax resources. Guess what, his sponsors loved him doped to the gills. Let them file a civil suit if they feel so defrauded.
I'm sure it makes a good story for the journalists. But really, his career is over, there is nothing to be gained from trying to nail him.

Can they really nail him for those offenses? Prosecutors can't catch him in a lie unless they have additional evidence or overwhelming witness testimony to back them up. On obstruction, his legal team (IMO) seems too smart to let him engage in any kind of that idiocy at this point.
If the feds can't compel anyone else to rat him out, he's free... and the only reason people close to him will feel compelled to rat him out is if they feel the government can catch them in a lie. No evidence = no case.
I thought the only reason Marion Jones confessed is that she was faced with the physical evidence found at BALCO...? Anyone with direct knowledge of LA's doping were too sophisticated to leave any of that stuff lying around. Especially 5+ years after the fact.
That's not to say his reputation will remain intact. I hope he didn't dope, perhaps that is naive, but I really don't think this investigation will end up going anywhere.
what's the point of this witchhunt? why waste federal money to go after him? if he doped, then he won the all drug olympics over a bunch of other dopers. if he didn't, then this is all staining the reputation of an innocent man.
Innocent? Didn't he go out with an Olsen twin????????
Wow that's a big and bold claim. Can anyone prove he has always been clean and innocent of all accusations?Because of the well known secrecy surrounding doping practices by cyclists, I think the most we can say about any cyclist is whether they've been sanctioned by their federation. All we can say about Lance is that he has successfully avoided being sanctioned. This could mean he's clean and innocent, or it could mean he's a better liar than Landis.

That's exactly the spin his PR firm is using and you bought it... hook, line, and sinker. C'mon, jjjjjjj, I respect your opinion on a number of letsrun discussions, but you can't really believe it's ok if he doped just because everyone else was doping. Do you feel the same way about track?
I was a huge Lance fan for a long time. I think I always had my doubts, but I wanted to believe. I finally took off the blinders and it's not a pretty sight.

Whether he doped or not [I'm somebody who believes he did although I don't think it has been proven that he did] doesn't mean it is a good idea to spend federal taxpayer dollars prosecuting him. It may cost millions of dollars to pursue a charge which is very difficult against a nonviolent offender who is ultimately going to spend little or no time in jail. Yes, because it is high publicity it may be worth something in the lines of discouraging others from using and selling performance enhancing drugs and there is some societal benefit to this, especially with the concerns of PED use among teenagers. Is it worth the price? Value call, I'm not sure I think it is but I don't know how much evidence there actually is and what the investigation is costing.
