10 minutes and 24 seconds, or 10 hours and 24 minutes?
not bad in a -0.6 wind with no comp after no racing for a long while
Ouch.

Huh?
Dude returns from a several year hiatus, enters a low key meets, and runs a solid time. This is actually rather promising for Gatlin.
I'd take the time and I would also think in was a good start after a long break, but he said he was ready to go sub 10. That kind of ambition will kill a come back.
I think after four years, he learned his lesson, if he dopes again though, I'll lose all respect for him.

I don't think this proves he wasn't ready for sub 10. With a bit of wind behind him, he'd have been quite close. Also how was his start? maybe he got killed on his start (i have no idea).
The mark is equal to 10.21 without the headwind.
A 2.0 mps wind can be about a .10 difference. So if Gatlin had a 2.0 wind at his back (the legal max) he could run 10.11 now. He's not too far off from 10.00
I wonder what his start was like. I would think that he would have been frozen in the blocks. The last thing he would want to do in his first comeback is to false start.
"ouch" because that fool said he'd "easily" go sub 10

call me Naive, but I feel Gatlin has never knowingly put any illegal drugs in his body.
He is one runner I believe deserves a full re-instatement. I just don't see him the way I see Dwayne Chambers or Marion Jones. For some reason I think he is completely innocent.
he should transition to the 800 with that kinda speed he could destroy
Decent!
About what I expected; under the right circumstances he is probably capable of a high 10.1x. It shows that he still has it and if runs a little faster at another meet he may get invites to some of the A list meets.
If you think of this as the beginning of his season, then you can surmise he will run low 10.1 before the season is overwith. However; I don't see a sub-10 this year, if ever. Apparently he never stopped training because elite level sprinting skills depreciate quickly; coming back to the elite level after a 4 year layoff to the best of my knowledge has never been done.
Unlikely to get that many invites based on the reception Chambers had. Admittedly Chambers doesn't have the whole Olympic champ thing going for him but Chambers does the "redemption" angle as hard as he can and yet still can't get an invite despite being sub 10.
It's odd as I'd swear that the same rules don't seem to apply to others who've served drugs bans but that's life.
Did you notice the # of ex drug cheats at the EU champs.
thank you sir, right on the money
Actually, it seemed a decent clean run.
He's still got that ridiculous stride. If he can get his drive phase back and not rock all over the place, he could be credible again.
As it is, I don't see 10.24 into that wind as world-class. If other top runners were clean it would be, but whatever.
Contrary to what another commenter said, 10.00 is a mile away from 10.24, or even 10.20. His next meet will be interesting.
I agree. His run looked pretty good and he really didnt hit top speed until the last 80 or 90 meters. Slow reaction on the start but 4 years of no racing will do that to you.
