Do you ever pick up your pace during a training run so you don't get passed?

Yes, but mostly feel myself picking it up to catch someone ahead of me. Most people in my area are slow, but occasionally I'll only be catching someone very slowly. And then there are the jerks that speed up when they sense you behind them.

Keep chasing them, its called persistence hunting. It's provided my teammates and I with several funny stories.

Yes! My team does this as well. You follow, stalk, get up real close, then back off, reappear, breath heavily, etc...it's funny to mess with the slow pokes. And of course I don't feel bad, it's simply a matter of natural selection.

Nope. I get passed a lot. Today I got passed on my AM run because I had to slow down because I had to go to the bathroom. I do feel like shouting out after them "I'm still faster than you!" I usually let people go by that are passing me, unless they pass and then slow down. In that case, I feel like i have to punish them by throwing in a surge and putting them away in just a few hundred meters. Men do not like being passed by some skinny girl.

I like the idea of slowing down when I am about to pass someone. Sometimes what I do is I pass them so gradually so that they get the feeling that they have to go with me. Then, I ever so slowly pick up the pace little by little until they back off.

Any one else feel guilty sometimes passing a masters runner/woman/fat person trying to lose weight who is obviously giving it their all? I usually blow by them to minimize awkward contact time but I also fake heavy breathing so they don't get discouraged getting passed effortlessly.

No way, I am happy for then that they are giving it their all. I sometimes say something like "Nice going; you're looking good." I do hate it when it turns out they are wearing ipods.

I used to live in a highly concentrated city area where I knew many of the runners so once in a while I would pass people I knew. It was good to see them out there and fun to encourage each other.

i harken back to an indoor meet at York a few years back. As a masters runner toeing the line for the 1500 and having the "not wanting an awkward moment" kids groan at an old man. i still relish at self seeding to the back at the field and picking everyone one of you 'fake heavy breathing' types off.

get a work ethic pal, then stereotype those who've come before you.

Yes I do, but not before whipping out my dick to show him two things, 1. Mine is bigger and 2. I can piss further than he can.

i know i'm a schmuck (btw, correct spelling counts). my point was lumping "masters runners" in with "fat people", et al, makes no sense. It's arrogance at it's height. Like, um, cause i pass people i'm (a) better runner, (b) better person.

sometimes this list makes me laugh and then sometimes i see posts that just need a little push back to. It's not about my ego, its about a myopic mentality that ASSumes your, or my, opinion matters. Genius.

The deal is the dude who is trying to pass you KNOWS you are faster than he is.He KNOWS how hard he is working and has a good idea how ez the effort is for you and that is what makes the dude an ASS.

So when ever I cross paths with one of these types I would totally fork with there heads.I would be like the carrot on the string and the jackass would just keep going.Yes I would speed up but just enough to make em work harder and harder if they start to fade I would slow down just enough to give them some false hope repeat and they finally figure it out.

I don't like when a heavy breather latches on when I'm doing a shakeout or when a group of them takes up an entire sidewalk, but other than that, I have no problem with joggers or walkers.

They don't bother me, I don't bother them. We both get our workouts in. Why on Earth should it go beyond that?

Barely related anecdote: I was doing a morning run the other day and passed a dad pushing his kid in the stroller while running. He said to his son, "See, now THAT'S a fast runner. He's doing real training. We're just going easy today." I turned around and said "thanks, have a good run" and his little toddler sun gave me a thumbs up. No need for aggression on any of our parts.

That dad sounds awesome.
