Thanks for the link. It's been my humble opinion that he'd have more success in 5k-10k realm than in the 1500m. There's no 1500 listed for the meet so it's not like he picked a 3k over the 1500, but this race, and others of similar/longer distances, could maybe get him focused on the longer distances.
cool. Lots of US athletes competing- Geena Gall, Hey there Delilah, Scott Baughs, Nicole Bush, Chris Barnacle, and Alistar Cragg to name a few.
Alistar Cragg is IRISH. Not American. He ran at Arkansas, but is Irish and still has Irish citizenship.
Not so sure Lopez Lomong HAS to move up.
PR: 800m 1:45.58 (2008); 1,500m 3:32.94 (2009); Mile 3:53.35 (2009)
he was a heckuva a Cross Runner for a guy with range down to 1:45.58 out of college.
3K should be a perfect fit for him, maybe he can go 7:45 or better?
Is this Lomong's first race longer than one mile since he destroyed Solinsky in the NCAA 3000m indoors a few years ago? That was an impressive performance, he might have potential at this distance.

Yes. After that race and his 2 top 5 finishes in cross (beating guys like Rupp, Curtis, Vaughn), I've thought he'd have the endurance and speed to run well internationally in the 5K.
I call new AR. You heard it here first.
prolly 7:32 :D
Sould be pretty interesting to see what they can do, both of these athletes train exclusively for the mile or closer to 800/mile than the mile+. I know Lomong has very good endurance and from what I've heard so does Leo. i would not be surprised to see them run around 7:32.
I am a Slattery fan, but I do have to say I don't know how he makes it in to these big meets with his times over the last 2 years.
No way Lomong runs faster than 7:40. He just struggled to a 3:38. 7:32 is VERY fast. Not a chance!

Ricky Simms is his agent and he manages athletes like Bolt. He gets in on whoever the big star is that the meet organiser wants by being part of a group deal. Has he finished the London meet yet, or does he still have a lap to go?

My bad.
To be fair to Python, Alistair Cragg is listed as American on the start list for the meet.
Craggs parents are Irish, but he actually hails from south Africa, if we ate splitting hairs.

Nice Freudian slip.

Right, but unless we're eating Taco Bell, why would we be eating splitting hairs?
I used to think that he should move up to. However he seems to be progessing nicely in the 1500, no? He has won back to back national titles and only needs to find a couple more seconds to have a real shot at a medal. He could try to move up and maybe it would turn out that he can run 12:50, but most likely he is better of staying put. Hopefully he runs <7:35 and makes me look silly though.

Yep, Lomong was able to sit and kick by the guy who had won the 5000 in 13:38 the night before. How'd the team scoring end up for that meet?
Actually, some interesting names in these results from the 2007 NCAA's.

I didn't mean any disrespect to Solinsky. I just remember being impressed with Lomong in that race, and it's been a long wait for his next over-distance attempt.
