Absolutely agree. I don't know him like George does, but he is one runner I met many, many times in Michigan from the Bobby Crim to the Clare 10k the year before he became really well-known (yes he ran that race in Clare, Michigan in August) and also the Oak Apple 10k (Royal Oak, Michigan) in June of 78(?) or 79(?) when he won but hadn't entered and Pete Hallop got the official victory. Of course, there is his many runs in the Old Kent 25k.
Herb looks way bigger in pictures when he's around Rodgers, Meyer, Salazar, etc... but honestly, his legs weren't "that" big and definitely not built like a wrestler.
A perfect example is Tony Sandoval who is one small and skinny guy who would appear to give Herb the look of a much larger person, which he's not.
Herb ran some great road races including the Midland 15k against Viren and many, many others, but he never had real success on the track as did the others who finished ahead of him. Just my humble take on Herb Lindsay.
