He was giving a speech out in LA and he said he was training for the Olympics trials.
"My goal is obviously to qualify for the trials. If I can do that who knows what will happen."
What do you guys make of this.

He's a clown. I don't think he can make the women's B standard.
I imagine 99% of the people here will rip him. However, I think it never hurts to try. Why not?
I will respect him a lot more if he does qualify. But what does he mean, "Who knows what will happen?" Is he suggesting that if he qualifies he might make the team? Kind of delusional.
Dean has done a lot to elevate running in the public's eye....this can only help.
I'm no dean fan but if he qualifies it would really elevate pro running in the general public's eye. Hopefully not just him though.
What is his current PR? Didn't he run a 2:30? So I guess it is not too far away.
Do you have a link? I didn't see him mention it in this interview...http://dean.runnersworld.com/2010/06/qa.html#more-459
He's planning a sex change operation in order to make the women's team.
I'm curious to see how he qualifies. Does he enter a real race with the big boys (normal competitive long distance guys) or does he qualify in his "own" race.
I'm a fan of Dean, but there is just no way on God's green Earth that he will qualify. The guy's best marathon time in the last several years is 2:55 at NYC (admittedly that was after running 49 straight days of marathons, so he was clearly able to run a faster time). My bet is he could maybe, maybe drop a 2:40, but no faster. He's 47, and has no pedigree as a fast runner, so I'd be surprised if Karno could run any faster than that.
Well, at least he's got the base down.
He's just marketing himself. He knows he hasn't got a prayer. I have a better chance of making the trials than Dean Karnazes.
Obvious troll is...something. Can't remember.
Leaving everything else aside - he's 48. There are a couple of people that age who've run fast enough to qualify for the trials, but it's literally a couple. He's blowing even more smoke up people's asses than usual.
Not only do I doubt Dean could run at qualifying pace for 42.195 km, I doubt he could do it for 0.1 km. Can Dean run 100m in 19sec?
I really doubt he actually said that. A good troll effort here, though.
He'd better not be planning on it.
As much as he turns my stomach, there is no way the guy would make that statement. I hope to God this is a troll attempt...if not, every US man with a legitimate shot to qualify should be after his head for trivializing their hard work.
He's almost 50 years old, and I seriously doubt he had a shot even when he was in his prime.
This reminds me of that guy, John Gill, who got out of prison and said he was going to make the Olympic team in the 1500 and got a lot of press for it.
