Why such anger?
What's your PR at Comrades?
Don't most of the lead guys blow up each year?
But really, where does this glee come from for seeing someone stumble?

predictable response.
No anger at all. I no longer even get glee from his continued failures. They are now expected. I just find it humorous that people still believe he has a chance.
Because of all the hype he made. He made a big deal about how he was going to win, to show everybody who was boss. A little less arrogance, and a little more respect for one of the world's premier ultra races, would have been more appropriate. He is not among the best in the world, and until such time as he reaches that level, it's presumptuous to act that way.

he did run 2:13 marathon this year. Not bad.
On the downhill CAL course.
Have you ever run 50 miles before? I haven't.
Mr. Cox finished the damned race, and even the Chief Satanic Officer of 666 Ventures LLC is impressed with that.

I guess getting the "runs" from the get-go are not a reason to have a crappy (pun intended) race.
Typical.
There is another thread asking whether or not he will win. NOW that we all know the answer we get the apologist responses. "Have you ever run 50 miles before?"
Elite athletes are careful about what they eat before a big race, esp. in a foreign country.

This is pathetic. What a sad little guy you must be.
Please tell us what in running has made you happy this week.

I don't care one way or the other about Cox.
But when it comes to the Cal Int'l course: it has less net drop than Boston and more uphill along the way.
Did anyone bother to see how well
Michael Wardian did? How about some
credit his was instead of whether Cox did
or did not run well.
I am not among the JC haters but I'm not surprised Wardian and Kami Semick performed better. 2:13 marathon may or may not mean shit at 50 miles and beyond. Lots of posts on these boards don't give the top ultra runners due respect. As if these athletes are a bunch of clueless jogger/hikers. Give JC some time, maybe he will figure out how do this.
Was just finishing among his stated goals? Nobody has dogged him just for running 50 miles. This is about talk vs. walk.

I'm not a fan of his, but get a life.
He hyped this, sure, but again he was doing this as a fund raiser and to raise money you need to get some attention. I'm sure he thought he could win and on another day he would at least have been closer to the front.
But get over yourselves.

Why would you "dog" him in the first place? Obviously he was having a terrible day. Those days happen. Being critical of that just exposes the weakness of your mind and spirit.
Perhaps you post a list of all of your races so that the rest of us can micoranalyze them? I didn't think so.

michael wardian was very impressive! he is both an amazing mega-marathoner and ultra-marathoner and he does it with humility and doesn't draw a bunch of attention to himself.
I don't care about Josh Cox.
He had the sh*ts. That is a valid reason.

Ummm Cox has never run 50 miles either as he said he walked 14k. Although I am not sure how many actual people who have replied to this thread have actually run 50 miles (Hville TX here) but many have.
I really don't see an issue as those in the know really didn't expect for him to have a chance. Had he won it would have been awsome though. I guess most people have an issue with his hype?
