Rios? There's a stand-up guy, hope you don't look up to him. He went to jail for trying to stab Tommy Downs at the Wharf to Wharf around the 1980s. The Aggies aren't well-liked here so get over yourself already.

Maybe there's something in the Aggies water, maybe not. OK go ahead and continue slobbering on Sergio guys. Some people will do anything to promote.
Maybe something in the water? Nice try at being cute. Everyone knows they don't drink water, only beer.
Someone out kick you and take your 5 minutes of fame. How could you not like the Aggies?
Let's get back Sergio. He started out after college a 30:03 guy, he's continues at it and won the B heat of Cardinal in 28:29, a PR, a USATF A standard and he had to run a 59 last lap to do it. No it's not a 26:59, but still, he continues to improve and to drop 90 seconds after college off a 30 flat 10k in college ain't bad.
Considering the career he has and the time it takes, I would hope that people would acknowledge and respect this instead of attacking others in the club he belongs to they don't respect for whatever reason.
Sergio is good, he's one of the nicest guys' you'll meet, he's tough, he doesn't make excuses. Yes he races often, but a lot guys thrive on racing to keep their interest up.
Sergio deserves props. Is he the best club runner? Who cares? Nobody cared that Jonesy was working on planes in the RAF when he as hammering, same thing here. Sergio's a guy who works a ton and makes the running fit and he's doing well. Isn't that something to rally around instead of finding reasons to attack? I would suspect most people on this board are in a position closer to his and wondering how to do it. Here's an example.
Joe
Joe many of the clubs have found he's quite cocky and so are most of the Aggies. They're cool to eachother but not members of other clubs, they're very Narcissistic. Carmelo Rios is a criminal he's the one who should be deported.

How did the subject of deporting a US citizen w/ a Hispanic surname come into this?
Joe
Because Rios tried to stab Tommy Downs at Wharf to Wharf when in fact he was from Puerto Rico. I was there so don't deny it.
I've emailed him a lot and always got good answers back about training with supportive statements at the end. Maybe he is cocky at races, but all the teams are, we like to screw around and talk crap. He just happens to talk crap and run USATF qualifiers. No one is on here crying about the other 100s of club runners in the bay area that talk crap.
Then again you guys talk crap about the top 10 american's in the sport too, so i guess maybe reyes should be honored?
Brian Sell said it best.....
Puerto Rico is part of the United States.

Sergio is not only a tough competitor but a great team member. At team x-cross country nationals a few years back, Sergio was hauling and setting up the Aggie tent on a nasty day. Reyes doesn't go around with a better than you attitude, except when he races. A cool dude with a set of heuvos.

It's up to Reyes to claim the likes of you as a "brother," not the other way around.
That is true. Over 10 years ago I signed up with the Aggies and there were some questions about if I was off my rocker. They've always treated me like a brother and even though my running didn't work out as planned they still do. There's a lot to be said for that and I've always appreciated it. Those that think Aggies are narcissistic really don't know s**t.
Sergio is the best club runner in my opinion because he represents the Aggies well in all areas, he works hard training, you can't argue about his performance in races, and he does his part to keep the club running. I doubt there's a club in the country that wouldn't do a Lance Armstrong and give their left nut to have him be a member. The fact he raised the bar too high for most normal guys by proposing on the jumbotron does raise some issues, but we're counting on an embarassing wedding incident to level things out.
If I'm pulling his leg while making him into the next Jason Rexing he knows it and I know it. He's earned both respect and brotherly kidding. Enough said.

Exactly my point. The Aggies are not the least bit humble when they race. They're arrogant toward and talk a lot of shit which is why they are not well-liked by other clubs.
What does it mean to be humble in a race, exactly? I kind of assume the reason most people race is to go fast and compete. Are you suggesting runners should not try to pass others in a race because it would be vain or arrogant since they are asserting their superior level of running on that occasion?
If this is the case, I hope and know that Sergio wouldn't be humble in a race - he will run to win, and if he can't win that race, he will be as far up in the standings as he can, which I think is a great example.
Is Segio humble in a race? No, but no one should be. Is he humble outside of the competition? Yes, again setting a great example.
On a side note, I agree that there is nothing in the Aggies water, or if there is it wouldn't matter - I've only seen em drinking beer anyways.

Not a fair statement, all the bay area/sac area clubs talk shit to each other and are not well liked.
Transports, Rebels, Aggies, WVTC, FF Sac.
We all get along, but seriously talk some mad shit.
So you just don't know the appropriate venue for inside jokes. Cool.
I'd say the best "club runner" in the USA are ALL the runners that compete just for the competition,to support their team, and just for what they get out of it. Many of us in the Pacific Association have been at it a long time and don't stand a chance of ever finishing in the money. Yet, we show up race after race, year after year - which truly supports the sport. So - I nominate those that toil in the pack as the best club runner.

Well-put, Ashley, both times.
