you have to wonder if some of these haters are even track fans
3:41/8:52/13:46 is an amazing triple, anyone who says otherwise is an idiot

You're just showing your character as a douche.
I don't think there's any doubt about YOUR character. Typical Duck fan.
Just speaking in language they can understand, GG.
I bet you cannot even define "character."
And what kind of Dinosaur uses a name like "Good Grief?"
What grief is good?
Not as good as I once was wrote:
A lot of guys try to help their teams out. They don't get threads started on them. This steeple was kind of like putting someone into a racewalk. Not much comp there either. There isn't "hate" on his performance. There's hate on the losers who keep trying to force him down our throats. Your love/obsession for him is too much. If he couldn't win an event in his conference, what threat does he really pose on the national level? Freshman in College have faired better at the National level.
Nothing you have written here is meaningful, or relevant.
Clearly you have never had the joy of being on a team that won something, let along coming back from a stress fracture, a suspension, and run times that fast in 3 events in 24 hours.
It should dawn on a few more of you people that we are celebrating Acosta's TEAM SPIRIT, and the team spirit of the Ducks in general.
Lananna and company have brought the greatest sense of team spirit to Oregon since Bowerman, maybe even more so, since it is a new era and perhaps more evolved student athletes than some of the rivalries and in fighting of old Ducks teams as depicted in Kenny Moore's Bowerman tome...
Aside from that, it is just plain fun to see the "kids" having fun.
Last year, when the Ducks went 1-4 in the 1500, there was happiness on all 4 faces, equal happiness.
Team. Team. TEAM, think about it.

I know, thinking about that work load, all in 24 hours.
His calves were killing him the last 800. He'll be sore to next Friday or longer...
Two words, AJ, Ice Baths!
His steeple was a masssive improvement over his first effort at Hayward Field. In that race his barrier tech was awfull. Also he knew(at the PAC10's) that he possible had a 5k as well as the 1500m the next day. In the 5k he set a PR. All in all this was an amazing week-end for AJ. Let's give the guy some credit. I doubt that many other collegians could pull off that triple.
It is an awesome triple and good to see that if you stick with it that things pan out in the end. He finally had a good steeple, ran a big pr in the 5k, and had a great 1500 (for the meet and year). This bodes well for being able to run well at big meets where there might be rounds. Good for AJ.
AJ is a good team player I guess but I'm just not impressed with this news. Its a great non winning triple that helped his team win a conference title. It doesn't make me think he's a winner or anything. He's a nice loser that helps out his team. If he's a factor in NCAAs, maybe he'll get some real respect one day but I doubt it. I certainly can't do what he did and admire what talent he does have; however, on a national scale his performances make me yawn.
I can't see it that way. AJ got overhyped coming out of HS, but he did a good thing on a smaller scale than Rupp did last year. Both he and AJ had been characterized as "me" guys, but I don't think the label sticks to either of them. AJ showed his commitment to his Coaches and his teammates and picked up important points. Ashton Eaton showed his commitment in the same way. Heck, Wheating ran on the 4X4 just for emphasis.
Lanana has his runners wanting to contribute to the team concept. I was especially impressed with Galen returning last year and then doing everything he could to bring trophies home. AJ and Eaton were obvious examples in what appears to be becoming an annual event of upperclassmen running for the team and not themselves at Conference and Nationals.
You people are over-looking the Michael Coe factor.
AJ always "gets up" when Coe is in the field...for whatever reason.
AJ still "owns" Michael Coe in college, as he did in CA HS.
The head-to-head record on college is 8-2 in AJ's favor.
if someone cannot simply tip their hat off to something like this and be done with it you shouldn't be watching the sport. stories like this is what has made me love t&f/xc my entire life. thumbs up to uo t&f and everything vin has done there the past 4 or 5 years...he is truly creating a monster. also it is amazing to see how dominating our sprints have become in the pac10 (even as it is a weak sprint conf).
Just looking at the 5k, he didn't really earn his team 6 points. If he hadn't raced, his 6 points would have been distributed as 1 point to Cal, 1 point to Stanford, 1 point to Washington, 1 point to Arizona, and 2 points to Oregon. So really he only earned 4 additional points for Oregon.

0/10
Why waste your breath? As someone pointed out, not any of the NCAA contenders could have pulled off this feat and nor would they have wanted to try and likely fail miserably.
There are all kinds of talent and athletic feats, this was a big one. Winning an NCAA tile is awesome, but think about that NCAA champ who knows they couldn't do what AJ just did. Derrick couldn't, Centro couldn't, Wheating couldn't. Acosta did. I know your gentle brain was only programmed to see a race winner as a successful athlete, so you may be outta luck in understanding what happened here. The only guy in the Pac-10 meet that had a greater athletic meet than AJ was Ashton Eaton, and that guy is the best in the world, perhaps ever.
AJ was good in high school, but he wasn't 8:34 or 13:55 good like Fernandez or Derrick. This was a great meet for him.
I think you're right. Wheating, Derrick, and Centro might not be able able to do what he did but they win. They don't want to trade places with A.J. I bet. As I said I said before, I couldn't do what he did. I doubt many could. I'm just not really impressed cause the guy doesn't ever win. Now what Rupp did last year at NCAAs (indoors and outdoors), those were truly great multiple event performances cause he won the races and got points for the team. I know Acosta can contribute to points and relays, and he may be able to run himself to death to get 5 extra points for Oregon which is admirable in a way; still, he's not a champion. I don't hate the guy. I just don't really feel him all that much cause he's not a winner. I guess A.J. performance is like the equivalent of the 6th man award in the NBA or something. Great, but he still isn't in the starting five and probably never will be.

You can insult me all day. That's not going to make A.J. win races. Some of you really take this stuff personally. Its entertaining.

And which D1 school did you score 19 conference points for and ensure the team title?
You clearly have never been there.
Further, you need to know that it is not all about finishing first, they all can't finish first, and if you truly appreciate the sport, then you can appreciate this gutsy effort of 4 races in 24 hours.
Those of us that have been there, on the track, know what an accomplishment that is, and we also know that any athlete who does his very best on the day, is in his or her own right, a champion.
Learn to truly appreciate the sport.

If you saw him the showers you'd probably say his johnson was shorted, because you saw a longer johnson on Wheating...
Get your head out of your ass. When it comes to a final tally, he scored 19 points for his team, in a triple, with four races. Those 19 points get totaled up with the rest of the points by every individual for every team, and then they do a little thing called math, and the team with the most points, wins!
No need to look for ways to detract.
Yes the team spirit was really evident when Kosinski twice turned her back on Blood after getting kicked down in the 5k. Homegirl was pissed!
I guess that's the girls team though and even though the guys team has had its conflicts in the past (see Galen and Shadrack) the major egos seem to have come into line. I think where a lot of the "haters" are coming from is the fact that AJ is not particularly well liked in the track community for a variety of reasons, some valid, some not. Still, anyone should be ready to admit that he had a great meet, and its stature is boosted by his previous struggles.
