A lot of guys I raced against had marathon pr's from the Boston Marathon of 1994. Its where Bob Kempainen ran his 2:08. Big tailwind that year. |

Is there *anyone* who seriously considers it the hardest road marathon course in the world? What about Big Sur, San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, or Crater Lake? |

Someone must need to learn how to count. The WR is 2:03.59, this time is within 2 mins of the Boston win today. A 2:05 at Boston is by FAR the hardest 2:05 ever run on any other marathon course in the world. Today's run was amazing to watch, and was by far one of the top 3 marathons ever run in terms of performance. Also, need I remind some, that Sammy was not in the lead front pack @ 10k in Beijing. |

I beg to differ. We're supposed to believe some guy most of us have never heard of is all of a sudden running a top 3 marathon performance ever? So where does that put Kebede who finished 2nd and most of us had never heard of before? Top 20 all time? What about Meb? He went for it, blew up at the end, and still ran 2:09 while not being 100% healthy. Should we subtract 2 minutes from his time and say he ran a 2:07 while blowing up at the end? The weather was perfect, the wind was beneficial and boom you get fast times. An impressive performance but definitely not top 3 of all-time. |

___________________________________ Not a major, but as many American marathoners have discovered, the Yonkers (NY) marathon is by far the hardest course. The course record still stands from the 70's, and no one wants to even attempt to break it (2:20) |

It was a significant HEADWIND, not a tailwind. |

Boston is difficult, but not hard. There's a difference. In Boston you have a very small margin for error and most people require a couple of tries to be able to run a good race on the course. But if you hit it right and run intelligently, you absolutely can run as fast a time in Boston as you can in Berlin or Chicago. It's a net-downhill after all. A hard course, in my opinion, is one where even the most perfectly executed race is going to be slower than a flat course. Like San Francisco or Portland or Barcelona. No way Geb or Wanjiru or Cheruiyot could ever run a 2:06 on the SFM course despite it being net-zero elevation gain. |

The wind did not help. Yes there was a tail wind but there was also a cross wind and a head wind as well. |
