American Citizenship: next Robert Cheseret, Sam Chelanga...Sally Kipyego?

None of them are really any better than the best white Americans, but they'll be in the mix and help to raise the bar some. I mean, while she's really good Lisa Koll isn't far and away the best collegiate runner we've seen in recent years yet she just destroyed Kipyego's collegiate record. Really, they will benefit more from US citizenship than the sport in the US will benefit from them, as none of them have much of a prayer of making any Kenyan team. It's more about them dodging the competition they'd face in their native country to make teams for WC and OG. So once again you give too much credit to runners simply for the fact that they are African, nothing new here.

You are so wrong about Sally Kipyego. Maybe you should read up on her performances and history before making such an assumption.

At age 15 Sally Kipyego placed 8th at toughest meet in the world World Junior X-Country Championships.

Once she reached NCAA Sally often ran for place and not time and won over 99% of her races against Lisa Koll and every other American collegiate distant talent.

In 2010 while working on her Masters Degree Sally dropped over 34 seconds off her 5000m indoor best to become 11th fastest ALLTIME indoors at 14:52.67.

She also in her season 5000m debut outdoors already soloed a 15:02 easily beating Molly Huddle who just place 19th at World Cross Country Championships.

And yet you say she isn't that much better than the white (whats the need to point that out) Americans. Who cares if they are white or black Americans. She will be the best American once she become a citizen unless the other Americans step up their game because Sally has lot more to offer even in the future like sub 14:35 and 30 minute 5000m and 10000m.

Which WC or OG has Kipyego run in? Osaka? Beijing? Berlin? Her junior WXC run was years ago and is irrelevant.

Kipyego went to Stanford in college to run for time. She's not clearly better than Flanagan or Goucher or Yoder Begley or Barringer right now, she wouldn't be a lock to win against any of them. Those are the facts, my illiterate friend.

Sally's last 10000m was in 2008 when she ran 31:25 while still study for her Bachelor degree full-time. In 2010 she runs 14:52.67 indoors a time only Shalane Flanagan has run faster. She destroys a talented Molly Huddle yesterday in the 5000m running as she pleases and you think she isn't better than Goucher and Yoder, PLEASE.

If Sally goes overseas to the Diamond League Gp I bet she runs 14:37 and 30:25 this year. How many other Americans beside Shalane Flanagan do you think can do that?

Robert Cheseret probably has US citizenship already since he is now an officer in the US Army.Chelang'a is concentrating on University studies currently and not too bothered about citizenship.However his girlfriend is a US citizen and if they get married he could be a citizen very soon.Kipyego is keen on being an american citizen but is the one out of the three who has the least chances since she needs a green card before she can seek US citizenship and that is a difficult and windy process.By the way Korir( LA marathon winner) is closer to US citizenship since he is now married to an american citizen.I think they way things are,soon we will have about 10 kenyans in US colours.

Wesely Korir's wife is Tarah McCray who holds citizenship for Canada.

Sally Kipyego and Sam Chelanga both have the potential to be among best U.S distance runners all time anyone thinking otherwise is fooling themselves.

I didn't say she didn't run faster, clown. A time trial is not the same as a competitive race. Her 10,000 PR isn't faster than Flanagan's, Goucher's, or Yoder Begley's. And last year should be compared to last year. Are you saying that Kipyego improved over the winter but Flanagan, Barringer, Goucher, and Yoder Begley haven't? Don't be a fool.

Ummmm........ ever heard of Galen Rupp? Doesn't really matter what he ran in college (at age 25 for those scoring at home) or how many titles he won against soft competition, he'd have to beat all but two of the following in a given event to make a US team if he were to become a US citizen: Rupp, Ritz, Nelson, Teg, Solinsky, Fernandez, Jager, Lagat, Fam, Torres.

Oh and if you're going to call someone idiot then you'd better make sure that you don't write like an idiot, moron.

Sally has accomplished in NCAA something not Shalane Flanagan, Kara Goucher, Jenny Barringer (how many did they win combined) could winning 9 NCAA titles in 3 years

Sam Chelanga still have another year of college eligibility and already holds the 10000m CR.

Robert Cheseret in 2005 at age 22 ran 13:13.23

All 3 of those athletes are still in their early 20's and have achieved things very few -or- NO American Collegian has accomplished. Don't know why you got so uptight when dicussing 3 future Americans raising the bar of distance running. So why don't you put your ignorant opinion back on the shelf with your sister/girlfriend's tobacco spit can.

Did you miss that Chelanga is 25 already? Do the math, Cheseret is 26. I know that facts like that probably don't have any place in your cracked-out rear-view world.

For all Kipyego's potential, as someone already asked where was she for Osaka, Beijing, and Berlin?

I disagree on Sally, she probably could make the Kenyan team in the 10k, which is always difficult no matter who you are. I would not be surprised to see Sally ranked in the IAAF top 5 by the end of the season. Keep in mind that Sally has spent the last 4 years pursuing a nursing degree at a major university and competing primarily against NCAA level competition. Also, Sally has an efficient stride for long distance and will get even better as she moves up in distance.

Btw, making Kenyan JrXC team is about as difficult as it gets, Sally did it twice.

He already has a faster PR than all except one of them. And he did it while taking a full academic load and as an English learner! And by the way, Torres is retired. And he is never gonna have to beat Teg, Lagat, Solinsky, Jager to make a 10,000 team, IDIOT. Why not mention that he has to beat Jeremy Wariner to make a 400 meter team? Moron.
