Good time for a 7th grade boy in the 1600?

I ran 6:0X in middle school, went on to run 4:23 as a senior in high school. I agree, the puberty thing is important.

when i was in 7nth grade last year i ran a 5:26 and got second even though i tried my hardest but that was the first year i ever did crosscountry or track so i felt pretty good

I ran 2:11.0 for 880 yards in the 8th grade; sub-9:00 two mile in HS; 28:xx 10K collegiate and post.

7th grade-5:29, 8th grade-5:16, 9th grade-4:47, 10th grade-4:21, 11th grade-4:17, 12th grade-4:14.

As others are saying, middle school times mean very little. Several kids were beating me in middle school and by high school I was beating them. Two biggest factors are how hard they are training and when they reached puberty.

6:25 mile in 7th grade. probly had four practices a week and ran no longer then 2.5 miles total, if that. didnt run at all in 8th/9th grade. picked it up again in 10th grade and ended up running 4:25 and 9:20 as a senior in hs. now am a 25:20 8k/15:00 5k guy.

5:17 in 6th (5'4", 110 lbs)

4:58 in 7th (5'8", 120 lbs)

4:46 in 8th (5'9", 130 lbs)

I had matured fairly early. I was easily bigger than my friends who ended up up having a couple of inches on me by the end of high school when I was 5'10" and a lean 160 lbs. By then, I had only gotten down to the 4:20 range. I really trained a lot, relatively speaking from junior high through high school, but also split my efforts with cross country skiing quite a lot. Still, if I specialized, I probably would have topped out between 4:10-4:20 in high school.

I thought my Jr High records would stay a while but there came along a kid who cruised through them by ~10 secs. He's ~14:00-14:30 5K caliber now in college.

My son ran a 4:53 mile in 7th grade and had someone on his tail all the way. But that was 18 years ago and I think it is still the city record. Quit running and played baseball in high school.

I couldn't break 7:00 in 7th grade... I worked hard too. I can now run a 14:10 5k...or about a 4:09 1600

My son ran as fast as 5:32 last spring as a 7th grader, and also 5:33,5:37 and didn't win one meet. Hopefully that will give him motivation for next year (doesn't seem to be working this summer!).

I am a 8th grade boy this year and I won district in the mile for track last year with a time of 5:27 when in 6th grade I was running a 6:15 I'm hoping to be running under a 5:00 is that possible?[quote]gobbly gook wrote:

As you probably know seventh grade is not a very good indication of how good a runner is. In seventh and eighth grade I knew a rather stocky kid who dusted the competition in his races, but came high school he resulted in being an average runner. (17:45 5K, 10:50 3200.) He probably blew the competition away in middle school because he probably started puberty at the beginning of fifth grade. Ironic how he made fun of me in sixth grade for being short and now I eclipse him by 3 inches. (Still excellent friends.)

However, the middle school record of 4:59 in the mile belonged to a kid who later ran 15:05 in the 5K and competed with the likes of Tim Hacker. So, as you can see from this information, you really can't tell jack-diddly-squat in seventh grade.

A good time is anything six. A great time is anything under 5:30.

I ran 5:3x in 7th grade. I was 12 at the time. Freshman year 15 years old, I ran 4:42. Last year I was injured for much of the season and ran 4:38 1600 and 10:04 3200. We have yet to see what happens this season.

We had a guy on our track team that ran sub-5 in 8th grade who ran 9:04 3200m in 11th grade. Good improvement. Another guy ran 5:10 in 8th grade and then didn't run in high school at all. I know another few fast guys that didn't "make it" in high school. Seemed like the fast middle schoolers were more likely to have a tough time in 9th grade. Part of it might have been the work they had to put in and not being #1 anymore. not sure.

7th grade - 6-flat or thereabouts

8th grade 5:24

9th grade: 4:49

10th grade: 4:30

11th grade: 4:29

12th grade: 4:25

This did not happen. 4:47 is faster than Jordan Hasay ran at that same age to set the USATF record.

In 7th grade i ran about a 5:10. And 8th grade 4:35. graduated highschool with a 4:06.

In my junior high years i ran on a club team and did Junior Olmypics, I was good enough to qualify for the national meet but not good enough to place.

If you wanna see how athletes stack up on a national level, you can always go to the junior olympics website and check standards/marks for the specific age group.

But a side note. I cant name one athlete that was a stud in middleschool at the junior olympics meets, and continuned to develope to having success at the college level.
