He's had a great indoor season that may indicate the's going to break Ritz's record. Any naysayers out there?

He will undoubtedly run 12:50... for 4930 meters. D'oh!
If healthy and in a race with rabbits, a sure thing.
Passing through 7.42 if even paced. I doubt it. More like
12.55 on a perfect. would love to see him doing though.
you realize he has run 7:32 indoors right? and that he has rarely ever run in paced races longer than a mile of 1500m right? lagat has been in it as a racer not as a time chaser. if he so chooses to get into a fast paced 5000 this summer going through 3000 in 7:42 should be no problem.
exactly
he looked awesome in winning doha
i've never really heard bernie mention time-targets until this recent interview where he said he wanted 12'50 & i think he wants the time bad enough, even if it means significant risk of blowing up & losing to not just kennster but 1/2 dozen others
however, it is a tough ask
his doha run showed he's got speed again & i think he's good for 3'31 outdoors
with that, you still need some superb endurance to get 12'50
trying :
3'31 with
7'30 ->13'04.4
7'29 ->13'01.5
7'28 ->12'58.6
7'27 ->12'55.8
7'26 ->12'52.9
7'25 ->12'50.0
7'24 ->12'47.1
because he has so much better 1500 speed than other 5k guys ( usually 3'33 - 3'35 ), he needs to have exceptional 3k speed also to decay down to 12'50
he's going to need to be in 7'25 shape to show enough endurance to hang onto 12'50...
It depends on his supply of Uzbek EPO that is due to arrive in Flagstaff any day now.

Close, 12:57
No.
I wouldn't be surprised if he ran 12:50, but that is a very fast time that will be difficult to achieve even for someone like Lagat. He has really impressed me with his 3k races, and he's run 12:59 twice, 13:03 once(?), etc. Not sure if that equates to a 12:50 in a perfect race or not. I think he can do it. Can and will are two different things though.
Regardless, I wish him the best of luck and am anxious to see what he does. Such a great guy.
interestingly, his 12'59 with a 51s last lap indicated at worst 12'53 if even paced
that was 4y ago though...
The sub 12:50 is probably beyond him now. In his prime it would not have been a big deal for him. Maybe 12:55 now?
Given that he's stated his goal is to run 12:50, if he gets in a 12:50 race, he'll run 12:50.
Lets hope he runs it as an American, not a Kenyan.

what does that exactly mean? He has only run as "an american" for many years. How would he do it as "a kenyan" ?
I honestly am not sure what you are getting at ( 2 possibilities: you are referring to likely letsrun reactions calling him a "really a kenyan" and not an american if/when set this record, or you are referring to his running as a kenyan when he had already become a US citizen at the 04 games? )
He's an American for Chrissakes, Malmo. Turn off the Rockford Files, pull down your tube socks, and pay attention on a thread for once..

Yes he is. He is just as American as when he ran for Kenya in Athens 2004. Lagat kept Paul Korir off the Kenyan Olympic team. He kept Alan Webb out of the Olympic Semifinal. He kept Manuel Damiao out of an Olympic Final. He kept Timothy Kiptanui off of the medal stand and turned Rui Silva’s silver medal into bronze.
I guess that Rui Silva's medal should be 'silva'?

After the news broke about Lagat's passport situation, Silva was asked if he was going to protest to the IOC and he responded (words to the effect of) that no he was beated by two great runners, he came third across the line and was very proud of that bronze medal.
Don't be a tool, Malmo.
He ran 13:03 and 13:11(i)training for 1500's, now he's doing 5k specific training, he can definitely get 12:50.

It wasn't a "passport situation". He was not a Kenyan citizen from the moment he took his US citizenship. He kept it a secret.
I would love to see your citation? If your account is true, I'm sure its out of respect for Lagat and not because Silvas sponsor, Nike, knew about the fraud being perpetuated?
