The Return of the King. Where all the horsies charge down the hill, and just when you think the Orcs are going to get pwnd, they bring out those big Elephant looking things. Epic.
Lots to choose from. My personal faves, not necessarily in order:
1) Opening battle in Gladiator. Pretty gritty. Shows the awe inspiring, well coordinated Roman war machine and their advantages pretty well....though the cavalry charge in the woods was a bit off.
2)Several of the battle scenes from the japanese movie 'Ran' by Akira Kurosawa. Pretty intense. Seven Samurai is good too.
3)Zulu. 150 Brits against thousands of charging Impi Warriors. Seriously intense and well done (Michael Caine in it I think?--don't have time to look). Had to be tough to pull off before the age of CGI.
4) Omaha Beach Landing in Saving Private Ryan. Hand held cameras, off color, made it feel like pretty real footage. My great uncle was a ww2 vet and he said he freaked when he saw this (although he served in the pacific front, there were also brutal beach head landing battles there too).
5) Gettysburg. The part where they showed the battle for little round top was intense, very riveting. Even though I knew the historical outcome, I was still sitting on the edge of my seat.
Black Hawk Down.
Opening sequence in Saving Private Ryan. They invented the word harrowing for that.
Good call on Zulu. That's one of my favourites too and it does indeed have a young Michael Caine in it. When the warriors line up across the ridge, it's awe-inspring and fearsome. Great film.

This has always been a good battle
My top 5, in no particular order...
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers --> the entire Battle of Helms Deep, but especially from the part where they charge out of the castle, onewards.
Star Wars: A New Hope --> the battle of Yavin, the whole space battle is terrifically done, and without CGI! They never should have redone those films...
Saving Private Ryan --> opening battle on the beach, WWII vets say it is far and away the closest depiction, in film, of how that battle really was.
Kill Bill, Vol.1 --> The Bride vs. The Crazy 88... I don't think I need to explain this one.
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back --> Luke Skywalker vs. Darth Vader in Cloud City... terrific sword play, great within the context of the movie, and the stunning revelation "I AM YOUR FATHER."
I agree with the Lord of the Rings movies, have to throw Braveheart on the list!
Not much of a CGI person, but some of the films already listed are amazing to watch. My choice is Waterloo. Nothing is awesome like a massive cavalry charge.

Black Hawk Down.
That is more than 1 scene, but excellent nomination! It gave me a sense of the confusing (not saying it is anything like what really goes on).
There are several scenes in The Patriot that are pretty awesome.
River Tam vs. the Reavers in Serenity.
All the battle scenes in "We Were Soldiers Once And Young"
except the very last charge.
