congrats too all of them!
When it gets to the point where guys that I've never even heard of are breaking 4 minutes, then it is truly disheartening. Remember when anyone who broke 4 was already well known? Not that long ago.
What did Jordanek run? That's a hell of a breakthrough for him.
jealousy is bad for the soul

You should think the opposite. If people you never heard of are breaking 4 and it's becoming more commonplace, then by that logic, you should have a better chance of breaking 4 someday!
Paying attention to Millrose HS mile winners is an easy way to keep track of promising underclassmen
ditto the FLXC champs,Nike Nats...
a mixed value thread about sub 4s and their place in history was up a day or so ago
The kid did win the HS Mile at Millrose and has run 4:02 and 8:09 this year. Going from 4:02 to 3:58 isn't unheard of. I'm sure 80% of it was believing that he could do it and getting the right frame of mind.
Obviously the kid is talented and ran phenomenal. Well done Kyle, Willy and CU!!!
Congrats Tony J! I'm pretty certain this was the first sub 4 for a Richland County runner. Ha!

80%....
troll.
So many Americans under 4:00! We are coming on in the distances! The marathon is improving and all distances in between.
My guess is he meant he'd never heard of Jordanek, Masters, and Heath. Heath rings a bell a little, but otherwise I agree.
I do know about Kyle Merber.

Yes, I agree. The fact that people can work hard and improve can kill one's spirit. ;)
Everybody needs to shut the hell up. How have you never heard of these guys? Merber was a high school stud and ran 4:05 last year as a freshman. Heath won the East Regional outdoor steeple, went to nats, and I think did well. Masters already broke four this season and was featured on the quote of the day on letsrun. Jordanek was a 4:11 high school miler and ran 3:45 in college for Penn State. All of these guys are studs.
I thought Merber was only 4:06 last year. Either way that i still a very big drop in a single year, and the year is still young. off off 4:06 he ran a 9 flat steeple last year, imagine the damage he is capable of this year.
Kyle split something like 4:02 on the final leg of the DMR at Heps last weekend, and looked like he had 3:58 in his pocket if he needed it. This was after toying with the field in the 3000 the day before, so you could see this coming.
Big talent.
And since this is LetsRun, when do we start discussing what would happen if Merber really got serious about running and moved up to the 5000?
As soon as Merber runs faster than 8:09 for 3K, that can begin, one would guess.
8:09 is solid, but does not yet indicate great things at 5K that is for sure.
The mile so far has been his most effective distance, but a lot, last year and this.
80%....

?????????
splits anyone?
I know the Columbia coach fairly well. He said Merber has been training for the 5000m outdoors all along this season. He did only run 8:09 in the 3000m but it was his season opener. I am sure he could go well under 8 right now.
