Why do women race 6k XC at the college level when the men run 10k ? High school boys and girls both run 5k. All track distance events are the same length 1500/3,000SC/5,000/10,000 in college. Same goes at the international level.

Too much body fat.
In D3, men only run 8k.
do the women run 8k in D3 XC ???
Senior USA, World Cross Country:
Men 12k
Women 8k
NCAA Division I Cross Country:
Men 10k
Women 6k
I smell a trend.

B/c girls are slow and nobody wants to wait around for them to finish a 10K
Honestly, that's part of it. Some of the slower girls at regionals would take over an hour. Same reason why D3 guys don't run 10k. There would sometimes be guys coming in at 40 or 45 minutes in an 8k.
Same reason world XC is 12k and NCAA's is 10K. Some of those slow American kids would take about 50 minutes to cover 12K if they manage to finish at all.
shouldn't the question be "How come college guys run 10k xc when ladies run 6k?"
good question...
I believe it is the same reason Women's tennis plays best of 3 sets while the Men play best of 5 in Majors and Grand Slams - sexism (the concept that women can not do as much as men). In other words, the same reason Women weren't allowed to run the marathon until what - the 1980 Olympics.
Solution - the women have to complain...the question is why aren't they? Why aren't profession women's tennis player demanding equal play? (they protested for equal pay) Why aren't the women demanding equal distances?
I'd like to see both men and women run 8K in college.

I don't think it's sexism. Both the winner of the men's race and the women's race are crowned NCAA national champions. It would be sexism if the women's XC race wasn't recognized the same way by NCAA.
I do think it's time to take the women up to 8K at XC nationals. Most states have gone to 5K in high school for both boys and girls (years ago girls used to do 2 miles). It's time for the NCAA to catch up a little. Plus, they let women run the 10K in track.

Take a look at the slowest guys in D1 regionals. In the midwest the slowest D1 guy was 38:55. The slowest D3 runner was 34:33 for 8k. I think at the bottom of any division the talent levels will be about the same.
If a 6k were to take 25 min for example, 20 minutes longer for a 10k isn't that much time, in terms of leaving the meet earlier. I've only heard Jenny Barringer mention women should run the longer distance. Still, some of the girls I know who run in college make 6k sound a great deal further than 5k.
6k is 120% of a 5k. Sounds like a lot.

Look at all the women that collapse at the end of a 6k. Now imagine what it would look like at the end of a 10k.

I was going to say the same thing, except obviously women can't go any farther than 6K since they collapse; fall all over the place; and/or go into hysterics at the finish line of a 6K. So, if running a 10K a lot would most likely fall/collapse/or get hysterical at the 6K point of a 10K race.
Maybe women aren't complaining b/c they don't want to run the longer distance.

Well not really if you do the math...IF the D3 guy could hold pace till 10k off his 8k pace he would run 43:10 but likely slow down over the last 2k...so 43:30 is a bit slower than 38:55.
Because there's a wider gap from top to bottom and top to middle than for the men. If you keep it at 6k you make it more enticing to middle distance runners.
Instead of you all complaining about it, why don't you respond to someone who actually wants to do something about it:
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
