3:59.72 about ten minutes ago. It must be a magical moment for him, having come so close so many times.

i doubt he cared about place. the guy has run 4:00.xx at least five times.
you get real and appreciate how big of an achievement this is for him.

Exactly...I can't think of someone who was so close that many times. Kudos to him for sticking with it.
Props. Must feel good tonight
I've never met Sam but I'm truly very happy for him. His story is very cool and it's great he's kept at it and seen this through!

He said the reason he came to Washington was to run a fast time not win.
Way to go!!!!!
nice job sam. letsrun was pulling for you.
congrats to former UVA runner Andrew Jesien. Both put the work in to fulfill a personal goal and accomplished it.
Way to go Sam Bair! I am glad to see that all of his hard work paid dividends tonight. What an incredinly fast field...13 guys under 4:00 in the meet? That's sick.
Was that a Full Mile?
Yeah, don't know the guy, but you gotta be happy for someone who's been so close so many times. Sub 3:59 may not win many big races any more, but it's still a huge accomplishment to go under 4:00 in the mile.
Congrats, Sam.
Hecvk of run for Andrew Jesien from last place up to second - (at least for a while) to go sub 4 - first time i think and almost 3 second PR from his run at the Armory a few weeks ago.
doesn't really count though cause of the oversized 307m track, you convert that to a real banked 200m track and its just like the million other 4 flats he's run

What do you mean, it "doesn't really count"?
What if he dipped under four outdoors on a 400m track? Would that count? The fact is, he covered one mile in less than four minutes, something that he has tried several times to achieve, and has finally done it.

seriously, dumb reply by blunderdog. I imagine that some of his 4:00's were actually on outdoor tracks. since those are actually faster than a 307, he would be running even faster on an outdoor track, and obviously that "counts."
BD Were you touching yourself when you wrote that. What an ass.
I don't care if he ran laps in a gym or on a 307m indoor track, 3:59.72 will officially be recorded.
I'll bet those who are busting chops here have never broken 4:00 for 1500m.
And, his dad is a sub 4 guy.
Dad ran 3:56.xx, son ran 3:59.72.
That's a lot of speed and endurance in those genes!
