Watching the race footage, Rupp certainly looked white as a sheet at the start. Now whether that was simply from nerves standing next to Bernard Lagat or the fact that he's been living in Oregon without sun all Winter is up for debate, but he didn't look well. When the race started though, he showed no signs of weakness aside from the last lap.
Lagat also looked the most tired I've seen him at the end of a race recently. This was no walk in the park for him like Millrose. He had to really work for the win, which leads me to wonder whether he's not still better suited to the mile.
Say what?!
13:11 is a hell of a lot better time than a 3:56, so it does stand to reason that he had to work a little harder. Plus, Rupp had put the hammer down a couple of laps earlier, so he was having to kick off of an already-high pace.
I didn't think he looked tired at all.
