Due to safety reasons I cannot run outside. Could I run in place for 25-30 min and call that 3-4 miles?

I say it counts. I ran everyday for ten years, and one time it was not possible to run outside -- so I put some cushions on the floor and ran in place.
I counted it, so I say you can count it! I considered it like an easy 25 minute shake out.
You ran on cushions? I'm plannign to run on a carpet..
It isn't really the same as running.. more like cross training. Just think about it, you're not using your calves, hamstrings, glutes as much as you would if you were running.
Yea there is not much forward motion... just ran in place for 30 min, it made me sweat. When I finished I felt like I do when I finish running on a treadmill
Yes, can running in place count as a run... feels like running on a treadmill
But you can't run Chi or POSE since you will not be able to lean forward. If you can't run Chi or POSE it's just not worth running

Call it anything you want.... but eventually you'll have to leave the house....sorry.
take a page from emil zatopeks book, fill a bathtub with very moist towels covering the bottom and run barefoot in place. youll feel a burn pretty quickly
i once ran in place while playing the wii fit game (the 'free run'?) with my kids...does that count?
btw, i had so much fun and I actually sweated my azz off!
you cant call it 3-4 miles. you can call it running in place for 30 min.
How will I get my mileage goals if I can't go outside?!
I tried once, but I was unable to get my heart rate above 130 bpm (140 bpm counts for recovery jog for me). I was running barefoot and using forefoot strike, so my calves were completetly dead after 10 mins. For 3 days I had DOMS so terrible I was barely able to walk.
Oh well, it was more like jumping on toes than running.
ARgh I don't know if I can count it now!
My husband has a friend who, while going to the Coast Guard Academy, spent a summer on a ship and so as not to lose fitness before XC season, he ran in place on the ship for 30-60 minutes a day. He was the only one of his fellow CG classmates that didn't lose fitness for that season!
you can't run outside for safety reasons? are aliens throwing down bowling balls from the sky? is the temp above 100 or below 0? yes you can run in a blizzard. it is actually quite peaceful.
Could live in a bad neighborhood.
Well, the OP didn't give a location... maybe Iraq near a heavily land mined area?
As for running in blizzards, those who do it have my compliments.
However, when I run in snowy/icy conditions, I am extra cautious, thus pretty slow. It's actually kind of frustrating, so I'll typically use a treadmill in those conditions.
Unfortunately, today, in the northeast USA, my Y is closed, so no treadmill either. Thus, I'm willing to consider various alternatives... At least shoveling some snow will give me some strength work! And running in place at home... well, I might just try it, although I have been given some thought to just running back and forth in my apartment as the cat stares quizzically.
I suppose I should get a bit more courage in me and run through the blizzard, but I'm also just coming back from an injury and don't want to risk another. I was out long enough with the last one!
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
