As usual Sagarin is about the only poster worth reading around here.
It's not that Rupp lost, it's that the winner over came about a 2-3 stride deficit to outkick Rupp by a large margin (in and 800). Rupp just let him go, he seriously pussed out/lost in a head to head race with a kid who is a freshman walk-on.
Sure it's not his distance, however he should be able to run with more heart than that. If you run races to "tune up" stay at home and time trial, don't half ass a race just because the field is "weak."
I thought they said on the video that the altitude for that track effects the 800m by 0.6 seconds. In which case that still makes his time 1:54/ high 1:53. That's still pretty good. What I don't like was the way he just got dropped. He showed no heart and determination like he did at NCAA nationals. I understand that this was just a tune up, but run hard every time. I wonder had he won would he have run the 3000, just a thought
a lot of you lads are thick as planks on this website
i'm no pro but I'd definitely be happy with a 1:54 in January at altitude if i were specializing in a race 12 times as long
that picture's ridiculous

Altitude does affect you in an 800 its not much but if you are from sea level and not feeling well it can be rough.

Imagine being that kid no one ever heard of before. And he gets to say he beat Galen Rupp. So what if it's an 800. Today, he is a man. Tonight he at least gets a had job.
Forgive my ignorance: What is a "had job?"
Can we assume it is you awarding it?
give golden boy a break. hes not superman. trust me i talk crap and hate him most times too.... but can any of you say you come close yo any event he specializes in?(....ie NOT the 800)?.. didn't think so. and while your all talking crap now, the bad races like these will be the ones that help contribute to his 5 and 10k records. so shut up and run faster yourselves
whatever Rupp does in an 800m is of no matter. It is 'speed work' for the 10k guy.

Why do the times we run matter? If he ran poorly then he deserves to be criticized by anyone. I guess you think its wrong that people criticize Dwight Howard for being a poor free throw shooter. After all most people aren't a quarter of the basketball player he is. I'm guessing you think its wrong when people ripped A - Rod for his poor performances in the playoffs. Those fans can't hit a 93 mph fastball with movement, let alone a 63 mph pitch with no movement. If thats truly the case then fine that's what you believe. Otherwise you are hypocrite.
That is a really really weird move by Salazar. Are we sure Saladbar is still coaching him? Sounds more like a Brad Hudson move.
Someone explain to me what was supposed to be accomplished? Especually if he was sick.

Then why does NCAA give an allowance? Go back to the high school page...
Not when you have had an altitude tent for the last 12 years of your life.
i like that he has already updated his picture, unfortunately it isn't much better.
