A new 1/8 mile track just opened at the Armory in Park Slope. It's being operated as part of a multi-sports facility by the YMCA.
Has anybody seen it or tried it or know anything about rates for access?

seriously? i've been hearing about this for years and i always assumed it would never happen. in fact, last night, on my way home from the airport, i was driving down 8th ave right past the armory and i asked my parents if there had been any talk of the track actually happening in the last 4 years while i was away at college. they said they didn't think so. are you sure this is real? i'll check it out this afternoon and get back to you if it is.
well you were right. it looks awesome from pictures: http://www.brokelyn.com/yay-park-slope-armory-ymca-opening-today/. can't wait to go check it out this afternoon.
That's weird they made the track 1/8th of a mile instead of 200 meters. Looks nice though.
clearly neither atom nor his package were consulted.

Typically older indoor tracks use that kind of track dimension. The only one I know of that is 220 yds is the Harvard Gordon Indoor track facility, and that track was built in around 1980. Banked track with six lanes all the way around (wooden support system as well). In fact, the recent Harvard Open meet (12/12/09) ran the mile relay (4x440yd).
Heck the Fresno State track is only 160 yards, it makes for one tough race with how steep the banks are. It too is wood supported, but they have recently gotten a new track from LA or something.

It isn't a big deal as you can put down metric stagger lines like Harvard does (except obviously for the relays which are always Imperial/English because of the passing zone . . . . )

A+ reference!
any word on access for the track?
checked it out today. not banked but really nice. beautiful and clean 200m track. the other facilities are ok. not much there yet- they said they should be fully equipped by the 30th. membership is 40 a month for individuals and 72 for families. i believe its open access from 10-2 and then the lady was unclear as to the access after that- something about youth programs but maybe some lanes would be open to members. gym is open 7am-11pm.
hi. i need some more info on your indoor track. location, cost and so on. I have about 10-13 kids who is practicing for an upcoming race in July ang need some place indoor to practice until the weather get warmer

Those sound like very convenient times. 10-2. That's precisely when I'm not working.
