It seems like Lukas is the real deal. Will he run sub 4 and sub 8:34 3200 meter? If he runs in college, will he surpass fernandez or even derrick? I would say at this point, we are looking at the greatest American runner of all time.

pretty sure he's not american
He's not American born. He emigrated with his parents I believe in 6th grade or something like that. Either way, I can honestly say I've never seen a European bred athlete with a stride and mechanics that so closely resemble that of the east Africans. Long, lanky, effortless even at sub 5 min pace. That 14:18 indoor 5K looked like he was jogging..

Mark Nenow was also a white Kenyan

Lukas is certainly the "real deal", a brilliant talent.
However... German turned 17 in Nov of his senior year. Lukas will turn 17 in a few weeks. So Lukas as a soph and German as a senior are virtually the same age. German had a lot of injuries so missed lots of training during HS, and didn't even start running until Frosh year. Lukas has been doing swimming and tris at a high level for awhile. So...as far as their actual ages, and their "training ages" (years of good training and competitions under their belt), German as a senior and Lukas as a soph are pretty equal.
So Let's see Lukas THIS year run a double of 1600/3200 of 4:00/8:37 two hours apart by himself.
It won't happen.
In other words: no, Lukas is not more talented than German.
(and let's see Lukas run a 3:55.0 mile indoors ALL by himself next year, when he is 18 during the winter, the same age German was when he ran that performance during his frosh year in college)
yes.... let us see.
it won't happen?
how could you possibly be so sure? is it that far fetched for a 14:18 indoor 5k guy to double in such a manner? If the times mentioned are run, but they are 2 hours and 7 minutes apart, does it still count? is there anyway to temporarily halt his "training age" so that he can make it more fair for the other runners???
I believe it CAN happen. (see the difference?)
Also, i thought that the terms of your court order disallowed you to mention German's name on opinion-based online running forums... or are you only no longer allowed within 500 feet of his dorm room?
please enlighten us more on this peculiar "training age", i'm eager to learn my own!!!
you, sir, are a douche..
Actually the training age he's talking about is very real. It's not so much of an "age" as it is a countdown of how long before you're done running your best times at middle distance. Normally when you start doing intense training (and running amazing times) correlates directly to when your middle distance career is over. There are no hard and fast rules but history shows us the trend. You, sir, are a douche.

Meb K came to the USA with his family at around the same age (6th grade or so). He is not considered a "real" American. However, Verzbicas is white after all and so probably will be considered American

Seeing as 14:18 indoor is no where near on par with what Fernandez did...he'll have to be much better. (not saying he won't). the indoor 5k record is a complete joke compared to the other records. You are a f'ing idiot.

"Seems like the real deal"..."if he runs in college" "will he surpass"........If a frog had wings he wouldn't smack his ass on the ground after each jump!
Get real.....print it now, Lukas will not surpass Eric Hulst's time posted over 30 years ago at the soph and junior levels...who cares where he was born.

If what you say is true, then Running Times owes him an apology: that shot of him on the cover made him look like a totally uncoordinated dork.

No, we aren't.
If Lukas breaks any of Fernandez records his senior year, you'll be comparing a 19 year old vs what a 17 year old ran.
Lukas is talented and all, but compare what the 19 year old Lukas runs to what the 19 year old Fernandez runs (or 18, seeing as how his freshman year was better...).

YUP, WE HATE BLACKS
It was 4:00/8:34 same day for the 1600/3200 at the Cali state meet.
Verbicazcas is euro trash. He ain't gonna break our wonder boy's record.
i think lukas has a shot at sub 4 minutes AND sub 8:30 for the two mile. ive seen the kid run and he will break virgins record easily at palatine
On June 12, Verzbicas will be running...."The 2010 Jim Ryun High School Dream Mile"....He did not run HS track this season.
will see now he does
Besides Verzbicas is a tri-athlete first and a runner second. He has made this quit clear.
I would say at this point, we are looking at the greatest American runner of all time.
Ya ditto that man I think at this point it is FAR past time to call him the best ever american. I mean, what else does he need to acheive to secure that easy title? He's already conquered so many tall, tall mountains.
(intense sarcasm)
ps jim ryun went sub 4 at 16 yo. it was his junior year. ok he might have been 17 but not by much I'm not sure. It was set in '64 and he was born april 29 '47.
He hasn't even surpassed things accomplished close to 40 years ago. Bragging about a 14:18 (which is good) is fine but how does it compare to 28:32 for 10,000 meters? That's what Rudy Chapa ran in HS in 1976!! Luke is good but lets not get carried away
No, Verzbicas is more concentrated on the Tri-athlon rather than strickly running. German did unbelievable things in high school. Keep in mind, that Jim Ryun ran 3:58 in a high school only event. No one, not even German or Webb ran under 4 min. in an all high school event. But German did break the All time 2 mile against all high schoolers. I totally respect that. Im curious how Ryun would have did in the 2 mile event? "V" is a great runner, but hes not going to break 4 min. in the mile or 8:35 in the 2 mile. At least not while hes in high school
