The last two weeks or so I've had an issue with having a side-stitch (or cramp in my mid abdomen) on many of my runs. I've been running daily for over 12 years and never really experienced this before, and now it seems to be happening frequently. I can also feel it just sitting or walking or lying in bed.
Any idea what might be causing this or how to prevent it?

you could have a problem with your diaphragm. if this persists, see a doc and maybe ask for a chest xray.

My coach was an Igloi disciple and he claimed that many sticthes were due to tightness in the spine and back muscles. I always thought unproven, but did do a number of stretches (knee over the other leg gently twisting the spine) that invariably worked to get rid of them. Ok, maybe unproven and silly - but it did work for me.
it definitely feels like its in the abdominal muscles - not internally in my intestines or appendix (but i'm not a dr. obviously, so i can't be sure

i remember getting these a few times in middle school when i first took up running. my coach told me to breathe deeply. i find that pushing on it will running makes it feel better, but takes a lot of effort.

Hello, I realize this post is very old, but did you figure out a solution then? I have the exact same symptoms and I'm panicking. Have a race in a month.
