The answer is not .250..
The answer is not .250..

Since HCl is a strong acid and completely dissociates into H+ and Cl- in solution (within reason to assume this), the total ionic concentration is .250M H+ [plus] .250M Cl- = .500M. More correctly stated, the solution is 0.5 osmol or 500 milliosmol (that is the osmolarity).
Probably 15:45-16:05 or so.
Ah thanks a lot! So for strong acids and bases, you add the molarity but for weaker ones that don't dissociate you don't?
So if it was Ca(OH)2 instaed of HCl would be split into Ca2+ + OH-, so it would be .250 + .250 = .5?
Oh and haha sorry, do you think you could help me with another one? I can't seem to get it..
Equation: GeH4 + 3GeF4 -> 4GeF3H
If reaction yield is 92.6%, how many moles of GeF4 are needed to produce 8 mol of GeF3H?
So do you do: 8 mol GeF3H (.926) * 3 mol GeF4/4 mol GeF3H
I think that's wrong though...
Ca(OH)2 would be .750 osmol.
Add up the ions kid. One Ca ion, two OH ions.
Thanks. Do you know how to do the other one?
Oh and a weak acid or base that doesn't dissociate, it would stay at .250 right?
The answer is 6.48 mol of the GeF4.
I'll let you figure out the work. It's not hard. Just go back to the equation and starting setting things equal as if the equation was 100% efficient. Then figure it out as if it were 92.6% efficient, keeping in mind that you essentially want 8 to be the constant.
Err so... add .44 to 6?

well if 100% then 3X = 4Y, how many X to make 8Y. Now derate the 3 by scaling by .926.. ...Your really do not have much of a feel for chemistry do you. It has been 40 years since I took chem and it is much more obvious to me than to you.

You may want to consider the Berkely Gen Chem MCAT review, if you are premed
I think you want LetsBunsenBurner.com. Oh wait - I just went there and it was full of posts about running.
