Any word on elite field for philly marathon?
Any word on elite field for philly marathon?

Again I articulate f***ing horse shit.
There's a Greek Champions running. How is he doing?
Results seem weird, as someone ran 2:01 and another ran 2:04...
Looks like Employee #1 ran 2:24.
If Emory Mort is Employee #1, then it's a good day for Letsrun, because he won the race.
The Philadelphia Marathon people encourage people to switch to shorter races (half marathon or 8k) if they want to, but then they don't do the race timing correctly. Since they have intermediate chip mats, it wouldn't be so hard to bin the results by which course the runners actually ran. But I've learned you can't expect these people to do anything right.
I was spectating at the race today. First off those announcers were terrible. Talking about God knows what all the time. There was no hype when Steve Hallinan won the half, the announcers didn't even pay attention. Rothman had some really good times (but most of them were bandits), but them closing the race so soon has resulted in the field being a lot weaker than years' past. 5th place was 25:40. In 2006, that would have been 21st place. Word is they may be moving that to the Saturday which would mean more people could do the race which would hopefully make the field a lot more competitive again.
Ioannis Papadopoulos Kilkis GRC MALES 25 TO 29 02:35:14
OK, there's the Greek. I can drink my hemlock now.
john crews #1 in 2:17.15
The world is a perfect place on this Sunday. Employee #1 has called and said that he executed the race perfectly and got 2nd. Or at least he thinks he got 2nd as someone in the wave start, Conor Lanz (formerly of American) may have run faster even though Mort never saw him.
Mort crossed the line 2nd, was given the 2nd place trophy so in my mind he deserves 2nd place money.
More importantly, he ran 2:24:30 which is just behind my pr of 2:23. I want to thank him for sucking up to his boss and in return, I will allow him to keep his job.
He was probably the only guy in the race to negative split it. He went 72:40 - 71:49 despite the fact that he ran 8 miles in the 2nd half all alone into a big wind. He was 7th or 8th at the half.
He went out in 5:40 for the first 3 miles. Yes 5:40. Then a few 5:35s and then he started cranking 5:20s, a few 5:30s, one 5:12 in there.
John Crews, formerly of NC State, was the winner in 2:17:15.
Since the world is a perfect place, I'm predicting Cowboys 31 Redskins 14.
2nd win this year for Crews (Vermont City Marathon back in May) and an OT qualifier time to boot. Good going!
Check it out!

Results are royally f***ed. Karl Savage won outright in 2:17:15, 2nd was 2:24.
"Crews, a native of Lexington, Va., passed Philadelphia runner Karl Savage near the 23-mile mark and was never threatened after that."

It's a shared finish for three races. That's why it always takes till later in the day to get the results sorted out.
Major cluster f*** finishing the marathon if you were a decent runner. I finished around 2:52 and had to navigate through finishing half marathoners and full marathoners who had to cross across our path to continue on their way to a 6-7 hour trudge. Unfortunately the people in that time range are often the ones that decide to stay together in big packs - since they have so long to talk I guess.

I love the age graded %
It seems like almost every year the Philly Marathon has a bunch of major issues. It used to be the number of cheaters was huge because the out and back section, I think it was miles 12-24, didn't have a chip mat at/near the turn around. You'd always see a bunch of finish times that were completely implausible, 50 minute second half, stuff like that. To already have so many problems with results tells me they've got a major issue on that side of things this year. Plus in looking at the course map it should have been clear that the overlap VF notes above was going to cause problems. Why any race finishes a half and a full, that start at the same time, in the same direction and on the same path, is beyond me (and Philly adds in lap traffic for the slowest marathoners). Time and again we see that doesn't work out well for the faster runners. I can tell you from feedback I read from slower runners they don't like it either.
But the public votes with their checkbook that Philly is a "good race" by increasing registration numbers every year and selling out earlier. Until runners start bypassing Philly for one of the many other races out there that have their act together you won't see any changes that matter. And watch the feedback from runners at marathonguide.com. 90% of those who post on there will give Philly high marks as a result of the post-race high they have.
As I understand it, Philly is one of the few marathons in the country organized by a city department. There has been talk of selling the race to a private company. I say they can't make that happen soon enough. This should be the #2 choice for a fall east coast marathon behind NYC but the way they currently do things is not good enough.
Something strange going on. Maybe from Crews on they're acurate?
This race is a complete embarrassment to the city of philadelphia! Literally a complete cluster F at the half way point(had to read index card size signs telling you where to go) and then f'd up beyond belief in the last 1/4 mile, top runners in the marathon were barely even noticed and had to negotiate all kind of obstacles, because we had to cross over the course where the half was finishing and 5-6 hour marathon runners were getting to the half way point(so had to run through about 1000 runners running 9min pace and then having to share the same finish line as these people. So i was trying to kick down the final stretch and had to weave between people who looked like jared before he found subway! Through some elbows as well sorry, but I was going for a PR and people were already doing there I finished a half in under 230 dance 400 meters out! Redicuous, and complete idiots organized this race! What a dissapointment! And current results are completly screwed up so dont even try!
