It's hard to take a newspaper article seriously when the very first sentence is inaccurate. Highland Park is not "outside Detroit", it is within the city's boundaries. Anyone can look at a map and see that.

who are you to judge if this was "mindless." Is killing someone for molesting your 3 year old really "savage?" Would you say so if the molester had been some sick 50 year old man who had done it before?

Who is to say what the mother was telling him over the phone? Let's look at this fact...this was not HIS daughter. The mother could have been completely hysterical over the phone and the father was riled up. It's easy for the mother to look back and say "how could he do this?" but she is the one who let him in on the situation with HER daughter, so I kind of feel like that phone call could have been key.

I would never condone this killing, ever. Part of me does think that the father saved the 15 year old from a lifetime of shame and dysfunction from this molestation. That would be an incredibly difficult thing to live with the rest of your life and sometimes sex offenders graduate to more serious crimes (like the man from Cleveland who killed 11 people and stuffed them in his house).

Mercy is important, BUT this kid had just welcomed a lifetime of hardship with that particular act.
