Doubtful. It would be much easier for the CIO to stop being Scrooge and hire someone who actually knows how to properly configure Windows!

um what?
Thanks for confirming the fact that you have to "properly configure Windows" to get it to not destroy it's own copy on the hard drive and to not to require daily reboots.

That's funny, I don't remember saying that. And by the way, if your Windows machine needs to be rebooted more than twice a month, your IT personnel have failed you.
The fact of the matter is that Apple is the only vendor that configures an OS-X machine, so it's essentially guaranteed to be ideally configured from the very beginning. On the other hands, Windows machines are "customized" by the OEM and quite often they aren't properly configured when you first start using them. If they were, it would make a huge difference.
Face it. Youv'e been caught in your own lie. You are busted ;-)
Nobody wants to depend on an IT dept, Geek Squad, engineer frat clowns, etc. to run a computer. You don't have to fly in Phil Knight from his hamlet at Nike World HQ in Beijing, China to screw in your spikes and tie your shoe laces every time you line up. That's why Google OS will win if they can deliver.

How do you interpret "dependency?" As I've always preached, if a Windows computer is configured properly from the very start they are typically very low-maintenance. In my corner of the world, after a system is initially installed our users will depend upon us if their hardware fails, and that's about it. Normally we will spot-check once a month to ensure that their system was automatically updated, including both the OS as well as the standard applications. Once again it's very low-maintenance, provided that Windows is configured properly.
You lose. No dependency means there's no need to explain any further. That's what Google OS promises for computer users. Bye bye.
considering how there are thousands upon thousands upon thousands of pieces of software that will run on windows that won't run on chrome - i don't see the majority of users switching anytime soon.
basically all chrome os does for you is let you start up their browser. that's all you get! everything you do is on the web! hooray, it'll all magically work!
sorry, life is never that simple.
Millions of Java, Linux, and web programs already run on Chrome OS.

Yeah, but I bet %90 of users use more than a web browser, a word processor, a spread sheet and the most rudimentary functionality of an image editing program.
And those mainstays can (and already or) available on the web.
Even most business apps are know used via web front ends.
I don't know if Google Chrome OS is going to be the way, but I'm sure that dumb machines with both the heavy lifting processing and all storage in the cloud will be the way people compute in the future. The trend is already happening in full force.
Openoffice.org and other open source programs all run on Google OS today. The great thing is that open source programs are the most reliable programs available.

Not necessarily...
http://www.net-security.org/secworld.php?id=8489the worst situation is to have wares from closed captive dishonest and secretive companies that don't open their code to security adware virus fixes. few companies can weather a typical security attack without interruption. i would always opt for open source wares for the best solutions and service.
That is some BS. Open Office crashes strangely on my Mac with troubling regularity.

having choices is good. not if bad. the resurgence of apple and the strengthening of open source will make the industry better. happened to detroit. happened to ibm. is happening to microsoft. needs to happen to cisco. may need to happen to google. etc.
only an arrogant ass thinks his choice is the best for others who may have different priorities.
