Who Would Win in a 400IH Race?
The half-miler would have no previous hurdle experience but would have some time the week before the race to practice some form.
The steeplechaser would have average to good form but limited speed.
So what would win out, the speed of the half-miler between hurdles or the smoothness and conservation of energy of the steeplechaser.
is the half miler a full half miler? i nned more info in order to amswer

Anyone mildly athletic can learn to hurdle good enough for a 400 IH race in a week, I'll give this one to the half-miler any day.
I agree the speed of an 800 should normally prevail...but top steeple guys are not turtles...I think Fam would take down Symmonds
Always go with the 800m guy. They are studs.
The 800m is THE hardest event in all of track. If you are good at it, you can do anything. Anything.

800m is the hardest flat event. Steeple is the hardest track event.
Hurdles are a completely different skill. If you screw up on one, your whole race can be shot. For that IH, getting the rhythm/stepping right is critical, and it is completely different than rhythm of the steeple... But I still give the edge to the steepler with only one week of preparation.
I think the 800m runner would be able to get over the first few hurdles but would tire quickly coming around the far turn and would likely stumble coming down the final straightaway.

This is funny. No way an 800 runner or a steepler can learn to run an efficient 400 hurdle race in a week, but given the same prep time, my money's on the half miler.
