I'm thinkin about takin a running supplement. I'm a 22 y/o male that peaks around 60-70 mpw usually. Prs are 15:54 for 5k, 10k 33:46. Been running 5 years.
Anybody have any experience with any of these, I was thinkin cytomax but I'm not sure. Are these even legal under the NCAA (I run DII.)
Thanks
These aren't "supplements." They don't have anything special in them that is going to increase your performance.
Cytomax is a Gatorade-like "energy drink;" carbohydrates (sugar) with some sodium and other electrolytes thrown in. Nice idea, but not really that necessary.
Endurox is a "recovery drink" that has a scientifically-created, optimized mix of carbs, protiens, and other nutritional stuff. It's intended as a one-hit, post-workout drink to replenish your body's nutritional needs during the glycogen window (~30min after your workout). It fast-tracks protein and other stuff to your muscles to optimize your recovery.
So...... you can spend a bunch money on this junk, but you could also:
- eat a decent meal before you run and drink water as needed to take care of the Cytomax
- drink some milk/eat a meal with some protein after your run and take care of the Endurox.
If your training 100mpw in the heat, the cytomax might be considered, or if your training for ultra-endurance events you might want to look into this kind of stuff.
For a stock DII guy, just eat your protein and fruits/veggies, Ice and sleep, and run more MILES.
