I used to marvel at people who could run ridiculously fast times or score ridiculously high on standardized tests. But now that I have found mild success in each each of these endeavors it has occurred to me it has a lot less to do with incredible natural talent and intelligence than one might think. Its all about putting in the hours over a period of years (for some decades). Having come to this realization, I have become a lot less impressed about such accomplishments. What is so special about them if anyone with the proper resources and willingness to put in the appropriate time could also accomplish what you have?
Now I will admit that their are certain activities where natural talent does have alot more influence (a singer for example) and some people no matter how hard they work will topple Geb b/c he is more inclined to be a good runner AND he works hard. But in most cases its something that is just culture into a young child. Like if someone starts some activity or some related activity at a younger age he will almost always be ahead of his peers in that respect if he stays on task.
