I recently set an on the track 5k PR of 16:34, and I consider that a good estimate of my current fitness.
When using vdot running calculators for paces, my marathon pace, tempo paces, and v02 max paces all feel right (my calculated tempo pace is about 2 seconds/mile slower than my 10 mile pr, my calculated marathon pace is right about my half marathon PR (never have run a marathon), which is a little out of date, and I think I could beat fairly easily) So those number seem to look pretty good.
The problem is the easy run pace it gives me, 6:55 is not an easy effort for me. I run the majority of my easy mileage right at 7:25-7:35 pace, with the short run of my doubles closer to 8:00 pace. 6:55 does not feel easy at all for me.
What gives? Why is my calculated easy pace so much faster than I would normally run on an easy run? Running my easy mileage at sub 7 pace is not even close to easy for me. I'm not a particularly speedy guy either, I don't get it, can anyone lend some insight?
