After years of coming to letsrun I'm still shocked at how much hate there is on here.

Come Monday will I be cheering for both Fernandez and Derrick? Yes, of course.

Do I want one of them to win over the other? Yes, but that doesn't mean I want the other to fail.

That goes for pretty much everyone in the race. I don't know what compels people to conjure up so much hate for someone they don't even know.

I prefer Derrick to Fernandez, I also dont care much for Ritz or Hasay, the reason, I dont like the way LetsRun hypes these runners so much, I understand why it happens, they are American, you guys are American, its inevitable, I just get a bit annoyed by the way LR has already decided Fernandez is gonna run 12.45, Hasay is gonna be the greatest person at anything ever and Ritz' 5k guarentees he is the best 5k,10, HM and M runner in the world.

UTEP had another super stud that I'm to lazy to go look up.

ZACK, Mathew and Gid ran their times at the 1982 Mr Sac race. They were broken up by Mark Newow's 27:36.7.

Spelling is off, times are from memory, but I'm good at numbers and are almost exact.

If you look back to to 1975 to 1983 UTEP was the dominate team, Oregon one won and WSU did not win because they did not have a 5th man.

To answer your question these old dudes would smoke any team today.

The UTEP dude I could not remember was Gabriel Kamau(SP) he ran 27:36 at Mt Sac in 1982. MM ran in the 27:40's.

SNyambiu, ZBarrie, and GShanga were form Tanzania, GKamau form Kenya and MMarswatoe from South Africa. Four sub 27:40 guys on one team and the best runner SN PR was 27:51

Those guys scored 17, yes 17 points at the 1981 NCCA Champs.

They would at least mix it up with WSU and Oregon of the 70s. PS that is Stanford 2003, if you didn't know already.

I knew, but the question was for the 70's and 80's. But that UTEP team was and is the best team in the history of the NCAA Cross Country. Three of the five mixed at Olympics and World Championship. Mathew could not because SA was banned in those days. SA's could only compete in the USA's college meets. And Gabriel couldn't because Kenyan boycotted the 76 and 80 games.
