Alan still has one of the best high school 2 mile times in the country.

Many thanks, Kyle! Amazing to see so many of the Comet greats from "back in the day".
Did I see Mr. Kotter holding one of those trophies?
Was the meet held at Scioto Downs?
What were the times?
Distance was 4k; the Meet - as it was for decades - was at OSU's golf course, Scarlet and Grey.
Am I the only one to see the resemblance between Alan and Zach Wills?

Are you sure? I started XC in 1978 at Amherst. The distance was 2.5 miles and I thought that was the year Ohio moved up from 2 miles after the 1977 season.
Go Comets!
You would be correct on the details, but 4k is pretty much = 2.5 miles... OK, 25.6 yards short, but close enough.
Sorry; my poorly worded statement was that the 1977 meet was 2 miles; not 4k/2.5miles.
Amherst ran great that day. I think Bay Village had won every invitational up to then and was a heavy favorite. Goes to show, XC is a true team sport as Amherst had lost the state runner-up from the previous year, Wilhelm, to graduation and still had the guys for the victory.
It was the first year with the extended course from 2 to 2.5 miles. I loved the Scarlet & Gray venue, it was a great course to run and I alway remember fans running all over the place to see the runners come by. Probably why they had to move it!
Some crazy hair back then!!
Times for the earlier poster...
1. Alan Sharsu (AF) 11:47
2. Chris Koehler (Bay) 12:04
Amherst went 3-6-12-17-39 (12:06, 12:16,12:27, 12:32, 12:50)
Tons of great old-school 8mm transfer videos in that YouTube feed. Thanks for posting!
