Does anyone know where I can find a list of 2009 performances in the marathon? Looking for deep lists (3hrs seems like a reasonable cutoff). I'm contemplating going through every US Marathon and compiling my own, but thought I would wait and see if someone has already done the work.
This has been done in the past, with cutoffs of 2:45 and 2:39, but 3hrs would be crazy long. I think there were typically 500 people a year under 2:45, something like 300 under 2:39. If you did 3hrs, you'd have thousands of names/performances. You should look up those threads and see if those guys are still around...
I did it in 2005 and 2004. There were 986 men at 2:45:00 or better in '05 and 920 in '04. I did it partly as a "how fast are the top 1,000 US marathoners?" exercise.
I remember how I liked it a few years ago. Partly because I made the 2:45 cutoff. 3:00 list would be crazy long. I would start working on a excel spreadsheet but I don't know how to host it on a website for people to view. Although I haven't done any research to find out.
Was that performers or performances?

A cool stat would be to know where I rank nationally, and what time I would have to run to be top 500, then 400, 300, 200...
I did it for 2007 with cutoffs of 2:45 and 3:15. There were:
Men:
1507 performances by
1161 men
Women:
1450 performances by
1173 women
I surprised how similar the numbers were for the two sexes. It was tedious as all get out. The web site for Running USA (
) also had a similar list for that year, but I don't see one for this year on their overly convoluted website.
For the two people who have done it before could you estimate how long it took. (10 hours, 20, 30)
I would be will to take on the Mens list with a sub 2:45 qualifier unless somebody else wants to. I would post updates here.
