Are there any quality meets in America that take place after U.S. Nationals where distance runners can go to run PRs?
There used to be the CAN-AM series including Maine Distance Festival, but as of now most of the elite meets in the country take place leading up to our National meet as domestic qualifiers for this event.
After nationals, most U.S. runners take off for Europe to get PRs; but, the rationale behind these foreign meets is that staying in the U.S. will do nothing to further one's running career because of the lack of competition.
Could a domestic post-collegiate series be successful in the U.S.? These meets would make it easier for 2nd and 3rd tier post-collegiates, who don't necessarily have the funds to travel to Europe, to "chase the dream". These meets could also be viewed as tune-up competitions before athletes head over to Europe.
I'd be curious to know what people think. And what people think would be necessary to put on a successful domestic meet in early July.
