They'll need to rebuild eventually. Would suck to have your five years of eligibility go by while they dominate the whole time though.
Tell me about it. I might have a chance by my last year or two (1st year this year).
But, at some point the 2nd tier of runners coming out of HS won't go there because they'll realize they have no chance of cracking the team. It'll even out . . . eventually.
Look on the bright side though - they didn't beat the whole CIS this year.
Results?
i get tired of the attitude.
Hellish XC course today at the Senior Men's Ontario XC Champs...no rolling hills but rolling mountains. It was insane.
What's up with river not participating? I thought they were all about supporting grass roots development. Ironic the change in attitude towards this event when they are NOT the hosts. This certainly is a change from the national events builders they had talked about being.

CIS was Saturday. Men raced at 1:45pm.
AOs were Sunday with the Senior men racing at 2:25pm.
There is only about a 3 hour drive between Kingston and King City.
Is that too big an impediment?
It is when there is the CI's after party to attend.
For a club that seems on a mission to consolidate as much of the top running talent in the country, might it not be a good idea to prioritize supporting the provincial club championships over a bunch of post-collegiates crashing a university championships party?

I dont live in Canada, but have observed what Guelph and Speed River has done -- namely outperform, outwork and outthink every other university program in Canada (at least in XC and distance running). They are not arrogant when I have been around them and support the sport at all levels.
And yet, the small minded nimwits on here carp and criticize them for what....their success? Give me a f***ing break.
From this thread alone, people want them to be in two places at the same time (why werent they at OTFAs? why werent they at CIS? I suppose they should have been at the NCAA Regionals supporting the Canadians down there too?). I think what they have put together with little to no help from Athletics Canada is remarkable and should be commended.
Well put, and I totally agree! Guelph's vision/program is substanially better than anything I had ever experienced during my high school running days in Ontario years ago.
High-schoolers today really don't know how good they have it and for some strange reason also seem to find something to whine and complain about. Perhaps tuning into a 1/2 hour of Joel Osteen might help?
Apparently the intent of my posts has been missed.
I'm not criticizing them for their success at developing and recruiting top runners. They are a great model for what can be done at the local level for elite and sub-elite athletes.
But, no one suggested they should have been in two places at the same time. Please check your calendar. CIS was on Saturday. AOs were on Sunday, over 24 hours later and only a 3 hour drive away. And no one until you made any mention of NCAA regionals.
If the post-collegians of the group (those who would be running at AOs) wanted to cheer on their training partners at CIS, by all means, join the road trip.
But, for an organization that has been so dominating of the university and post-university distance running scene in the country (let alone just the province), is it not unreasonable to want those post-collegians who aren't on the Ekiden team to flush out the field at the provincial club championships? Could they not save their post-CIS party celebrations for the post-Nationals party only two weeks away?
