Any D1 schools out there today that took top 2 in regions (men or women) with 3 or less full scholarships (that is all xc runners on scholarship add up to less than 3 fulls as most DR's are on partials anyway). What about that took a spot in top 5-10 teams in a regional?
I wish there was a way to accurately track this as I think it would be very revealing in several ways.

typically it is outstanding academic schools who only give need based aid. maybe dartmouth or someone like that. stanford could even go in this conversation!
BS. They recruited my daughter and offered her a full "academic" scholarship. She had a 3.6 GPA and scored a 1200 on the SAT. Same with Brown. They get around the Ivy league prohibition on athletic scholarships with dubious academic scholarships designed for special athletes.
No, those are need based awards- financial aid people review those without even knowing the prospective students name, much less their activities or grades. I know this because I know a financial aid officer at an Ivy. It's entirely based on family income and assets.
In reference to the thread- the easiest way to tell is to look at how good their track team is. If they've got great throwers, jumpers, sprinters, than you know they can't have that much money in distance. I'm a Big East fan- I know that Notre Dame and Louisville have WAY less money invested in distance than Nova, Georgetown, and Syracuse. I would guess they each have between 3 and 5 scholly's in distance. I think Florida State would be another example.
This is a great question- making NCAA or winning conference XC with 9 or 10 distance scholarships is a WHOLE different ballgame. I have always had the most respect for coaches who do it on limited scholarship numbers. I doubt many do it on less than three though, expcept for the occaisional Ivy appearance (Columbia/Princeton for women, Dartmouth for men)- and, as said above, that is entirely different.
Texas men can't have more than 1 or 1.5.
Gotta second the statement above. This is a great thread. Would be very interesting to see a national ranking of teams with less than 3 scholarships towards distance, a ranking of teams with between 3 and 6 and one for teams with half their men's allotment for scholarships. Ivy League schools and their academic monies skew the issue and really should be bumped into the highest scholarship category.
I don't know about any specific programs but I would think there might be a few in the top 15-20 at Nationals in the 3-6 scholarship slot but not many and none with less than 3.
Arizona State on the Men's side routinely has less than 3 scholarships in their distance group. They do a solid job to get a men's team to nationals on a fairly regular basis. They are a big time track school - they care about distance running - but they don't financially support it. I would think out of the schools that made it - Texas and ASU would fund their distance group the least.
The University of Florida - i dont think any of their male runners get anything other than some book money. I think they add up to maybe around 1 scholarship. And somehow Holloway expects the Cross team to be on the same level as the track team which gets around 12-13 scholarships......

Where do they get the extra scholarships from?
Another differential factor is that a half scholarship at a school that costs $52,000 doesn't get you what a half scholarship at a state school that costs $26,000. In other words, most families can swing $13,000, but far fewer are ready for $26,000 per year.
If you coach at the top state school in your state, you'll get lots of good runners because your school is the most cost effective for the families.
The premier state schools - Texas, Wisconsin, Michigan, the Cal schools, Virginia, Florida, etc. - get lots of "free" talent. That won't beat the 10 scholarship for xcountry team, though. To do that, you have to supplement the state school with some scholarship money as well.
Maybe that's true for the UF men's team but the women's team, with all those Aussie women, I don't think they are paying their own way!
What about Colorado. Does anyone know about how many scholarships they offer? Obviously Jenny B. has had a free ride but what about Allie and the rest of the team?

No, the financial aid at Princeton is 'needs based' and is available to all students, there are no academic scholarships available for special athletes.

A fully funded team (12.6) usually has about 6 scholarships for mid-distance and distance combined. That means only about 3-4 go to Distance specific guys with 2-3 going to 800m guys who will never touch an XC course.

I'd be interested to see what teams send individuals to nationals that have low money as well... those individuals don't fall out of the sky, the teams that are on the periphery with small $ may be producing national caliber individuals, just can't get the depth.

To answer the original question, as written, I can't imagine there are any D1, D2 or D3 schools, other than extremely small teams with only 5-9 total runners, whose XC team members combined don't receive less than 3.0 scholarships. I'm not reading the original question to differentiate between athletic scholarships or academic scholarships or civic scholarships. Even at a school that finishes last in their region, surely the runners on that team are not all paying a full fee to attend that college. Might not be athletic scholarships (for example, my school does not offer athletic scholarships for any sports eexcept Basketball), but some other sort of scholarships.
If you want to ask the question relating to athletic scholarships only, then I suspect the Ivy League schools would be the answer to your question.

It means exactly what I wrote. I know what discount rates typically are at colleges and I have a pretty good handle on how much of that is scholarships vs. grants or work study or other funding options. Read any college catalog and you'll find pages and pages of scholarships that are available. My school's catalog shows 140 endowed scholarships (and a good portion of those give more than 1 per year), as well as 6 categories of scholarships that are more general-and we're not a big school.
The original poster did not specify he was talking about athletic scholarships only. If you're going to count ANY scholarships given to the runners on any particular XC team of any reasonable size, I would find it hard to believe that there is any college that has an XC team of 12+ where the total combined scholarships for those on the team is less than 3.0.
My program is a good example. We do not offer athletic scholarships for runners, but over the last decade given the average team size and the average financial aid package the school offers, we're at about 3.8 scholarships for the runners on our team each year.
If you're talking athletic scholarships only that's a very different discussion.
