You know, it isn't really rough. This board is not the world, thankfully.

People in the real world see things very different than the tool headed mentality of this board.

Portland's accomplishment is INSPIRING. Period. And it is also inspiring for the Oregon guys to see what Portland did, and to think "hmmmm, maybe we could run out of our heads at Nationals and SHOCK THE WORLD." Unlikely, but anytime a team steps up, it is inspiring to all the teams.

And you know, there is a thing called SPORTSMANSHIP.

Also, you know, Oregon is actually still re-building the program after 2 decades of Dellinger morass, and Smith confusion.

For all the lame assed Vin haters... The guy has a pretty good record.

You can't win them all, all the time, they key is to keep working. Part of living the dream, is living the experience, and sometimes you win and sometimes you don't.

It is all the human race, really, at the foundation, and even the Oregon guys who fell short today, can celebrate the success of their fellow humans.

What I know is that Oregon is still rebuilding and reinventing, it will continue to stay interesting, and be entertaining, and at certain peaks be downright inspiring.

I enjoy the sport for the humanity of it, and the purity.

This website, and so many of the tool headed visitors herein, really are not representative of people who love the sport.

At Nike World HQ in Shanghai, the executive staff is concerned about UO & Vin not performing as they had pledged to Shanghai. Plus, Beaverton has only 1 medal from Osaka/Beijing/Berlin. But Shanghai is hopeful, DI is until next monday. Vin can still win it. Go Ducks !

As a long-time Duck supporter, and recent UP supporter (used to run against them, but now enjoy watching them) - I think I need to point out that Portland did not exactly "run out of their heads" at all.

Yes, Betterbed did. However, what you're missing here is that their normal number 1 (Kipchumba) had a terrible race, and ended up #4 on the team. Osoro & Dunbar ran consistent with what they've been doing all year. Also, Frerker and Cosby didn't run. Those two are usually in their top 5 or 6.

And add to that that UP had 5 freshmen (Osoro, Dunbar, Geiger, Lars, & Bassett) running at the West Regionals, and that Kipchumba is a sophomore...and Frerker is a sophomore...and Cosby a Junior....yikes. Betterbed is the only senior in their top 11...and he's their usual #4 guy.

Looking at Lananna's quotes about how Portland & Stanford "challenged" the Ducks made it seem like he was saying that both the Cardinal and the Pilots "got lucky".

I don't think Portland's accomplishment was "inspiring" primarily because they ran a smart, measured race. Don't forget, the Pilots lost to the Ducks at Dellinger primarily because Kipchumba fell down within 800m of the finish.

While I don't think you intended your "inspiring" or "ran out of their heads" comments to be a backhanded compliment - it kinda came across as a bit of the normal Oregon arrogance...but maybe that's just me.

You are misreading what I wrote, I did not say that Portland ran our of their heads," I said maybe Oregon will be inspired to run out of their heads (since they have so many middle distance guys in XC this year).

Kara won the sole US T&F WC/Oly medal for the past 3 years. We all love Kara.
