What a great meet.
and the rankings going in to the meet...
btdt,
Thanks for the links.....were you at the meet?? Just interested how it was. How was the course....How about the weather.
Thanks,
PBR33
I was at the meet. It was a great spectator course and Central Illinois did a great job of hosting. It had some moderate hills throughout and ran a little slower than most were used to running during the season.
All in all it was a good meet and a great day weatherwise.
I was there too. He was right, the course was great. The ground was firm but just a little soft. Footing was great. Perfect to run on. It's mostly flat, but there were some rolling hills, so while it wasn't a difficult course, it wasn't as fast as it might look. The weather was near perfect. Probably mid/low 60s with little to no wind. Nice and sunny. Maybe a little hotter than some were used to lately.
PV ran a great race. They had all 7 guys together way back through the first mile and at that point I knew they were going to contend even though they were way back. I don't follow NJCAA (just there to see the local team and some friends) and had no idea who they were. Through the 2nd and 3rd mile they started moving up together until they were in contention, and then during the fourth mile their top guys really started separating to catch some more of Rend Lake's guys.
PV's 4th guy came from behind to catch Rend Lake's 4th about 100 meters from the line, but Rend Lake held him off in a very close finish. That decided the meet, I believe. Had PV won that match, they would have tied, and PV's 6th man beat Rend Lake's by quite a bit. I assume 6th man is tiebreaker in NJCAA, not head to head matchups? If it was number of head-to-head matchups in the top 5, then Rend Lake still narrowly wins.
Here are a few pictures so you can get an idea of the course and the conditions. Most of them are the local team, but a few of the leaders as well.

In the women's race, the leader separated very early, and was running more like 16:30 pace earlier on. She just got out front, built a big lead, and when she started coming back, she was far enough out that it made little difference. She draw a lot of people out fast during that first mile that ended up paying for it.
Thanks
