I expected Oregon to become a dynasty like Arkansas in the 90's. But instead Oregon is just stinking it up like Arkansas circa 2009. Great investment Nike!

Yeah,
the three they graduated were free agents for a one year hail mary for a championship. UW crused them last year and will crush them this year.
Adams State?
Villanova has a very good shot at beating UW. But that has nothing to do with this thread. As for the UW men they just finsihed 11 points behind UO for 4th in the toughest region in the country and the UW just spanked everyone else for 25 points to win region. In what way does UW suck?

they won two championships ;-)
and youre dumb
I realize they graduated Rupp and Kiptoo, but Oregon STILL has BY FAR the most natural talent in the NCAA. There isn't really an excuse for losing to Stanford except for inferior coaching. Oregon is made up of Footlocker top ten kids and champions. OSU and Stanford have a great amount of talent, but nowhere near the amount that Oregon has. And Portland? Are you serious?
Of course, Stanford's 3rd runner and 3rd place at NCAA West is a 1500 specialist. But, you're right, I suppose, those Oregon guys are lucky to just finish 10k.

Stanford and OSU both have more long distance talent than Oregon 2009. Oregon has more middle distance talent, Centro (1500m), Wheating (800m), etc., but they're just not up there in XC. You could say Acosta might be underperforming based on Footlocker champion, but his track times (sub-4, etc.) don't say that, so 10k XC might just be outside his best range.
OSU, they got the most desired recruit of his class, and one of top highschool performers of all time, in German. They also, somehow, have a 6th year senior in Vail. They still have Kosegi, who is at least as good as Shadrack Kiptoo was for Oregon.
Oregon is a track school? You must be joking
They have been about distance running since Steve Prefontaine spent his college years there.
Why do you think Martin Smith got fired after he led a team to a Pac 10 track championship? To much balance and not even distance running.

Vin Lalana was sooooooooooooooo mad after the men's race. He was literally SCREAMING at the men's team so much that he wasn't even at the start of the women's race. I swear he was about ready to slap A.J.
What does he expect when he sends MD guys straight to the front of a 10km cross country race?
It's classic Lananna and f***ing retarded.
Vin Lanana is a pretty cool cucumber, I cannot see him freaking out on his guys.
Wasn't there, tho, but seems out of character, with all the press observing him.
I completely agree with this post. People who keep saying that Oregon is a middle distance school and is amazing for performing this high are ignorant on several levels. Let's take a look at the team. Luke Puskedra (distance), Danny Mercado (distance), Diego Mercado (distance), Matt Centrowitz (middle distance), Jordan McNamara (middle distance), AJ Acosta (middle distance), & Kenny Klotz (distance). Oregon's top 5 will 9 times out of 10 be 5 of these 7. 4 of these 7 are most definitely distance guys. Even Centrowitz and Acosta (footlocker champion) are middle distance guys quite capable of stepping up to 8k-10k. This team is no different from any other top XC team in the country. Most XC teams have lots of 1500m guys on them, so stop being ridiculous and making excuses for a team that does not live up to it's potential. I do not know about McNamara, but as for all other 6 guys on the squad, they all finished top 10 at footlocker. No other team in the country can come close to this.
youve gotta remember that this wasnt started by an oregon guy saying its ok they lost because they dont have the distance talent
it was said in response to a guy saying oregon should never lose a meet because the talent they get is head and shoulders above everyone else, and while oregon does have the most big american names, most of the real all stars they have are in the middle distances
puckedra is a distance horse and a pure distance guys
mercados and Klotz are distance guys but are not the type of talents that german and colby Lowe are
Acosta is underperforming and for whatever reason, has since he got to oregon (with the exception of the indoor mile he got 3rd in...but again, middle distance success)
wheating and centro are middle distance guys that step up to be solid cross runners
there is no reason to think this team should beat a team of german, colby, vail, kosgei, and girma over 10k xc and based purely on talent its an upset if they do
the fact that most of their horses specialize in middle distance is not an excuse, but it also means that just because they have a bunch of names you recognize doesnt mean they should dominate every meet
wait until the dmr to say that
the men did not get an auto bid, they got third idiot, nice try, ducks suck all around

Rofl. Pathetic attempt.
The men's team graduated Rupp and Kiptoo, and the women's team graduated 3 seniors, and somehow they STILL both got auto-bids into NCAAs.
Amazing job by a school that doesn't even focus on XC. It's considered secondary to outdoor track.

I just realized that OU got an auto qualifier and UO didn't.
Congratulations to Martin Smith. This Bud's for you:

BTW, my money's on Wetmore and Co. to kick the Ducks clear off the podium--that is if BYU doesn't knock 'em out first.
props to portland for beating the most well funded college cross country team in the history of the sport. zero gravity treadmills, tutors, world class facilities, and all of nike's support gets trumped by a bunch of guys who log sick mileage in Forest Park.
