So I've gotten pretty interested in the multi events especially the decathlon lately. I'm especially interested in the dec 1500 because I'm a distance runner. So I wondering whether Beach has a good chance at doing what the title says. Does he?

who cares?
Obviously, I do.
If you mean could he run sub-4:00 as part of the decathalon, then obviously you have never done one because it takes so much out of you that I doubt anyone could do it. Could he run sub-4:00 in an open 1500? Probably.
He might eventually run under 4:00 for the 1500, but as of right now, he's a looooooonnnnnnnggggg way from scoring 8000 points.
Cmon Curtis, give it up! Angry that noi one is rampantly discussing you anymore on the boards? That you cant go to other schools tracks or meets to work out and garner attention? Grow Up kid! You'll never be the bright light you want to be...you should focus on figuring out how you're going to be competitive in the NCAA while at Duke.
and dont even dream of the professional scene...Hardee is miles ahead of you kid!
guess you didn't notice Duke had an NCAA decathlete last year?

I haven't done a decathlon, but you obviously don't you decathlon history because Robert Baker went 3:58.7 in 1980 scoring 7,479. He's the only one though. But who's to say Curtis, a 1:50 800 guy, can't do it in a couple years?
If Joe Detmer had started his NCAA 1500 faster he thinks he would have gone sub-4 (he ran 4:04). The extra points might have given him enough to go from 79xx to 8000+ (although it was 'wind-aided' under the old wind rules). Joe did run 2:29.0 for the 1000 in the Hept.
One must understand that if Beach just focused on the 1500m he could run sub 3:45-47, so its not unthinkable that he could train for a sub 4 minute 1500m and still hit a 8000m.
The sub 4 minute 1500m would be worth over 1,000 points meaning he would need slightly less than 780 points in the other NINE events. Although Robert Baker never scored 8000m points he did run 3:58.70 DecWR for 1500m in a decathlon back in the late 70's.
NCAA decathlete is far different from an NCAA champion.
