Should The Beer Mile Be Illegal / Banned? 11/6/2009 2:10PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
It is just a matter of time before some 4 foot 11 runner dies of alcohol poisoning.

Not to mention the horrible influence it is on others, and likely promotes under 21 drinking. Peer pressure/stupidity probably influences a lot of people to join in.

I am no where near a prude; I just think it is a dangerous activity and the clock is ticking until someone dies.

Milk mile = Fun and Funny.
Beer Mile = Dangerous and stupid.

I know some schools have a Nude Mile; often run at Midnight.

Please show us a case of someone dying of alcohol poisoning after consuming four beers.

That is crazy. Four beers won't kill anyone. Most races are done on campus and participants walk home. No drunk driving. I'd say it's WAY safer than your average or even lame frat party which most students participate in on a weekly basis. An annual beer mile is nothing compared to normal college life.

About the level of intelligence I expected from the morons of this board.

Listen, a person small enough, drinking 4 beers, in 5 minutes, with some other unknown condition, dies of alcohol poisoning.

Or, they could fall and hit their head. OR drive drunk on the way home.

It is a recipe for disaster.

It is only a matter of time before someone dies at a beer mile, for some reason.

Wanna bet every single University President in the USA would vote to ban the beer mile on their campus.

It is in the LEAST stupid human behavior.

Really stupid.

I mean, what kind of person do you have to be to actually want to engage in something almost guaranteed to make you puke???

The beer mile is stupid and irresponsible.

Milk mile, funny.

I would feel much worse after a milk mile than after a beer mile, and I'd probably be more likely to throw up.

Then have a little measured pole with a sign that states:

YOU MUST BE THIS TALL TO RUN THE BEER MILE
Heck no

On that thought, let's make drinking in bars illegal--heck, some 4 foot 11 person can die of alcohol poisoning there too. Oh, and drinking at someone's home, some 4 foot 11 person can die of alcohol poisoning there. Heck, there's always a chance someone could die of alchohol poisoning in any environment--why just the beer mile?

You know what? Drinking in one's home, or at parties can promote underage drinking too--let's ban that. Heck, let's ban drinking all together. Any drinking at all is an influence to someone under 21. Because we all know at the age of 21, something magically happens in someone's body where they can suddenly handle alcohol better than they did the day earlier.

"It's only a matter of time before someone dies" Well, it's only a matter of time before someone dies of RUNNING, someone dies driving, flying, etc. Yeah, let's ban everything. I'll get nice and cozy in my little bubble.

Idiot.

I don't believe that the beer mile encourages any new drinkers. I expect that ALL beer milers are serious beer drinker anyway and all you would be doing is taking the "healthy" aspect out of what they are going to do anyway.

"Wanna bet every single University President in the USA would vote to ban the beer mile on their campus."

Pretty sure the Beer Mile is illegal in some form or fashion on all campus's in the USA today. That doesn't stop them. Frat party's where under age drinking is illegal too. Doesn't stop them either. Fact is it's already illegal / banned. So what are you asking for? The police to hang out at the local tracks at 10pm every night to make sure 5 guys from the track team didn't get together to run a beer mile?

You have very little respect for your fellow runners, Mr. Crane. Do you think that we are all too stupid to weigh the risk on our own and decide for ourselves whether or not to participate in a beer mile?

Also, as requested earlier, could you please cite a case of a person dying as a result of drinking four beers? Thanks.

The only way you'd throw up for 4 beers is because your own stomach threw it up because it was too full and you pushed too hard. Look it up -- an average height person consuming 4 beers in under an hour would have a BAL of about .08~.09 which means you could borderline still LEGALLY drive. No one's going to get alcohol poisoning you f***ing dolt.

Can't believe I'm biting again at you Troll Crane but also you list Milk mile as a better alternative which further shows how much of a moron you are considering the amount of unknowing lactos intollarant people there are in the world, unlike the beer mile someone could actually die from this event. Yeah, real "funny" asshole.

And also the nude mile another great alternative, that way when you get caught you can be registered as a sex offender. You're just full of great ideas, keep em coming genius.
Please God Oh Please

This is probably a troll, but I'll bite because I know there are some morons out there that actually believe that the beer mile is deadly.

4 beers won't kill you from intoxication...ever...unless you are a one year old or have some sort of allergic reaction. You know how much alcohol you have to drink in order to order to be poisoned? WAY more than is in four beers. The best source I could find said that for someone weighing 100 lbs (ie someone who is TINY) to reach a potentially lethal blood alcohol level, they need to drink about 8-10 drinks in a hour. And this is assuming you DON'T throw up. And some food for thought for those who are inexperienced drinkers...alcohol poisoning waaaaay more often occurs from drinking hard alcohol, not beer. You will throw up beer before you get poisoned.

Here is my source about BAC levels, by the way
http://www.intoxikon.com/Pubs/Facts%20on%20ALCOHOL%20POISONING_4_7_05.pdf

So...for those who are slow...
8-10 drinks in an hour to reach a potentiall lethal BAC level for 100 lbs individual (not normal sized)
Beer mile usually = 4 beers
4 beers =/ 8-10 drinks
Conclusion: The beer mile will not kill you.
