Well considering they are on two different teams I don't understand your question. To answer your question on the thread topic, Jordan Hasay will definitely beat Schaaf who will go out too hard as is her wont and fade into a top ten less finish. |

Could go either way. Schaaf is well over a year older. I'm more curious to see Hasay's 1500 meter times next Spring with the increased mileage she has been putting in. |

Hope she has better luck than her teammate, Kosinski, who has not had the breakthru she was looking for in the 1500 since going to Oregon. |

This is likely true. To answer the OP, IF IF IF Schaaf can race halfway intelligently, then she should be ahead of Hasay. That's no knock on Hasay. Schaaf could be running much better than she is, imho. She's just running stupid tactics. Even while doing that she still beat Hasay at Pac 10s. A little bit more conservative start would likely allow her to push away from prety much everyone in the field (except Barringer and Kuijken of course) in the 2nd half of the race. If she pulls her usual stunt, she'll at least have Barringer and Kuijken to key off of, but I think that big ass peloton swallows her up and Hasay beats her. Of course, you've forgotten to mention the girl who beat them both last weekend - Nicole Blood. So, maybe Schaaf leads her team and gets beat by Hasay, yet Hasay doesn't lead her team. Eh...lets find out in a couple weeks. |

Too bad Andrew Wheating isn't playing on a level playing field. ;-) Everytime I see how hot the Oregon and WA runner girls are, I wonder "why couldn't the female runners have been this hot when I was in college." Something changed in our society, when I was in college, hot women did not go out for sports/athletics. I had to date hotties and then teach them how to go jogging. |

I disagree, and judging by Confeence meet it looked like Hasay was sucking wind much more than Schaaf. Schaaf does go out too fast most of the time, but has the strength to fend off late challengers. Hasay ran more consistent, but looked much worse for wear at the finish. I give the advantage to Schaaf, but could depend on the day for either |

Yeah, Jordan was literally sucking wind, BUT, in a good way. Jordan brought it all on the day, and she was spent about 30 meters before the finish or she'd have gotten second. Finishing totally tapped out makes her achievement even more impressive. Jordan ran smart, brought it all, and left nothing at the end. She is getting used to running faster and longer, and with more bodies around her. She'll either plateau in this way, or BOOM have a breakthrough that takes everyon's breath away. She could have seen this year as a year to be a solid contributer, adapt to the more intense training and environment of college. Instead, she appears to have solidly bonded with her teammates, and is 100% laying it all on the line to improve each race and significantly and dramatically help her team. No one would have dissed her had she finished top 12 in any of these races. She isn't settling for a respectable freshman level performance, she's going for it. She's trying to win, and eventually her body is going to let her. She might have an off day, but hopefully it won't be at nationals. ...A champion in the making. Exciting as heck to watch her progress. |

She's alright. She does nothing particularly special until she goes to a 'special' pro-coach and becomes world class from decent in a few months though. Keep comparing her to Charlotte Purdue, they're the same age. |

I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with questioning someone's racing smarts, especially if they don't produce the result that such an athlete is potentially capable of. Besides, the first poster was also implying that with better strategy Shaaf takes Hasay down. On top of that, your argument actually calls into question her mental fortitude, which I feel is much more personal to most runners than calling out their poor racing strategy--one can be easily fixed by a strong coach, the other is a character flaw. |

For the race battle, the LEAST of their problems will be each other, but of course the hype on 2 fine young runners is here to stay. How the race pans out shall be interesting but both will have a tough time for top 5. |
