Which is better? |

Comparing one to the other, the half marathon is better. However the 5:08 miler should be able to run faster than a 1:26 half with consistent training. |

Who cares? They both suck. |

Finishing a half marathon at all is more impressive than running a 5:08 mile. |

It's funny because I know guys who can run each but not the other. Not sure what that means, if anything. |

Definitely the 5:08 from my perspective. 1:26 would be a really bad day for me, while 5:08 a solid run. And I am not a distance person. Vdot equates a 5:08 to a 1:20 half. |
| ehhh |

Definitely the 1:26. I could run better then 5:08 in the 6th grade. I don't think I could run 13.1 miles at once back then. |

The 5:08 mile...and anyone who says different has no idea what they're talking about. Anyone who can run a 5:08 mile can easily develop the endurance needed to run the 1:26 half.On the other hand, a 1:26 half marathoner likely can't sniff 5:08 for the mile...even after training hard for it. |

i am old and can easily run 1:26. a 5:08 would have me in traction for weeks |

I am old too. I just ran 1:23:56 and would have no chance to be near 5:08. |

Many runners to not compete in both mile an half in near time. But regarding the Canova/Hadd discussion slow/fast twitch they'd learn a lot about their capabilities. |

I think it's completely different for different people. I was a 4:53 miler in college (female), and train pretty consistently now (seriously for a recreational runner - 60 miles per week with fairly hard workouts), 5 years out, and 1:26 is still a really good time for me. Realistically, I don't ever see myself getting much better than 1:23 or so. |

ok soo, let's see I ran 5:17 in 8th grade with a long run of 5 miles. i ran 4:52 in 9th grade with a long run of maybe 8 or 9 tops. at that point i would never have been able to run a half marathon at better than 7:00 pace, to do so would have sounded impossible. of course i got better, and now i'm a 4:30 miler and a 1:13 half guy. and am much happier racing half marathons. My girlfriend is also more of a long distance related girl, and her times are 5:20 and 1:24 and for her a 1:26 is much easier than even a 5:20 let alone a 5:10 in which we'd have to go back to the track completely and focus on real speed to get to. so for me i can run a 5:08 off of nothing, but i'd have to be training at least a little bit to run a 1:26 easily. |

In my eyes, the mile is a better time. I recently ran 1:26:40 and at best I might manage 5:30 for the mile. |

Probably the Mile is better. I have a female athlete that just came off a 5:08i and then ran 4:46 for 1500m outdoors and she ran 1:22:34 for the Half Marathon. |

1:26 sounds more impressive because it is a half-marathon. 5:08 sounds relatively slow for the mile. However, I agree that just about anyone who can run a 5:08 mile could easily train for a 1:26 half. Not so the other way. |
| Yep! |

5:08 absolutely no doubt |
