I am a serious runner, and I was just diagnosed with a stress fracture a week ago. However, my running routine ended weeks earlier when I noticed the pain (from the fracture). When I was ignorant of my stress fracture, I welcomed what I thought would simply be a week respite from the rigors of training. Yet, now it has been weeks since I have done any running, and anxiety is creeping in my endorphin deprived mind. Is this common among injured runners and are there any remedies? |

I have been sick for 2 weeks now with something that has yet to be diagnosed. Needless to say, I have taken the time off of running, and my anxiety is through the roof. Its seriously the worst. |

The anxiety isn't helping your injury to heal, and the stress might even be slowing the healing process. Cross train like crazy, but make sure that you're not aggravating your injury. Some orthopedics recommend the elliptical, for example, but for a lot of stress fractures, it can make them take way longer to heal. |

It happens. Just let it heal and know you'll be stronger when you get back into running again. Cross training helps alot also. |

yeah man, you're lucky that all you've got is a stress fracture. those are easy...you just sit around for 4-8 weeks and boom, you're better. not like those pesky hard to resolve ones like runners knee or plantar fascitis.. |

Cross training is the only way that I have found to keep your mind and body from going to crap during an injury. Try swimming or biking... I took up rough water swimming during a battle with peroneal tendontitis and it kept me strong mentally and physically until I was able to start running again. Also since I was swimming in the ocean it allowed me to get out on nice days and enjoy nature. |
