In NYC: I have a coach, but would like a training partner 11/3/2009 11:54AM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
Where do I find one? I am not a terribly fast female, currently around 5:18 mile and 18:45 5k, looking for somebody to train with. I'm looking for non-sketchy males or females who would be interested in 2 weekday workouts and 3 weekday runs a week, as prescribed by my coach. Where do I find such a person? Do I have to join a club with its own predetermined workout schedule?

you'll probably get good answers on here, but for what it's worth, i'm a guy, 28, looking for someone to run w/ a couple, few times a week, too. there's a couple people i run w/, but it's fairly irregular that we can coordinate schedules. not sure where you are/where you run - primarily, i'm up and down the east river, and the track in e. river park. there's a club, i guess, that meets at the track that i always see too. i think a lot of them do workouts on wednesdays.

email mb3630 at nyu.edu if you want any info or anything. good luck.

Eva -

You should try to post here. I think you would find a training partner quickly.

thanks for that link, it looks like everyone posted runs a tad slower, but perhaps other people are reading it.

To the other guy who posted: I run primarily in Central and Riverside parks, but I like to explore other areas as well. The East Village is probably the one exception; I love it there, but what an awful place to run. I usually run in the evenings but am hoping to transition to am sessions.

Might be worth emailing Willy Wood, coach at Columbia, or even Caroline Bierbaum, who's back helping them out. 18:45 would probably put you right at the level of their fourth or fifth girl, and they do lots of their runs in Central Park and Riverside. Maybe you can do some evening sessions with a couple of them

Hi, I run sub 20 5ks and sub 6 minute miles currently. I used to be faster but haven't trained recently, looking to start training again. Do you have an email address? I can email you if you're interested in meeting up for a run. I'm a female by the way. I run much faster when I train with the right person, but my former training partner works too many hours and can never meet up. I work in Manhattan near CP.

Nike trains M, T, Th, and Saturday. In the summer/spring/fall they train on Wednesdays at the east river track, but they stop that post marathon.

Mondays start at 6:30 out of Time Warner Center, T, Th, Saturday from NikeTown. Groups are large and unregulated, so you can generally find someone running at your level. All Nike runs are free.

CPTC has a pretty hard core running group -- you can check out their runs on their website. Their group are sub 34 10k, 34-38, and 38-42, so there should be a group for you there. Dues are 125/yr.

Warrent Street does a Tuesday night in CP and a saturday/sunday run. They seem semi-hardcore, but haven't recruited a bunch of "ringers" like some of the other clubs. And their runs are free.

You already have a coach, so John Henwood probably doesn't make sense. But he runs some speed workouts as well.

I think the harriers run on the east river track on Wednesday nights as well. I don't know much about them.

Hope this helps.

to "i can run"

We can try running together, we're definitely close in ability, if you're still reading this. I don't often read this message board, and forgot that I had started a thread at all. Here's my email, darkhorsepick@gmail.com.

thanks for the other helpful advice to everyone else. I would love to join a club but I find that non-athlete specific group workouts do not benefit me much.
